Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
bit more progress on the roll cage, at this stage only tack welded together, but getting there with all the bars.
note: the door intrusion bar is not finished, it will end up lower than that on the left hand side.
Also got my sump back from being acid washed and fitted the oil pickup, now I just need some braided hose and she's all done!

Very interesting mods to the oil pickup. Is that one you worked out yourself or has it been done before? What was wrong with the std factory setup? Will the engine be a little bit higher to get some clearance from the steering column shaft? Looking great.

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
The oil pickup mods are not my idea, I bought the lazer cut oil pump plate with the fitting welded into it then I worked out the sump side of it myself, its main reason for me is because I am using a stud girdle which fouls the standard in sump pickup, I could have modified the pickup tube to make it work, but this was an easy option and probably the best for clearance inside the sump.
the steering shaft isn't as close as it looks in that picture, but it also needs to go a bit lower on the firewall end which will help with a bit more clearance .... also the motor is solid mounted so it wont ever hit the steering shaft

OK so you just plug the pickup hole in the bottom of the block. Some clever bugger had a look at the pump and worked out just where to make the hole in the cover plate. I have seen high volume Holden pumps with a wider housing and gears but all said and done it's probably an overkill.

Wow those rollbar joins are neat Sammy. That tube cutter was money well spent...

Ahh yes I forgot that detail, bung in the block where the normal oil pickup goes. and yeah its pretty much just a hole in the opposite side of the pump where the gears are for suction, I do like HV pumps especially with the turbo oil feed and such added to the load.Charlescrown wrote:OK so you just plug the pickup hole in the bottom of the block. yeah your not wrong man, very happy with the outcome .... I was able to get very similar result on the gemini with just a hole saw in a drill and the vice, but it ruined a fair few pilot drills and cutters due to less control when it grabbed!firebug wrote:Wow those rollbar joins are neat Sammy. sounds good to me, either Gunnedah or Warwick will probably be on the cards for me!HQ355 wrote:Shhhh don't tell him ! Nice work Sam we should organize a weekend away when you get it going, with reference

Looking good.
I also fit a plug in the back of the pump.
Will you have it at Warwick this year?

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
a plug in the back of the pump where the old oil pickup was you mean ? why do you need to do this ?
this car definitely wont be finished for Warwick this year, maybe next! but we are going to Gunnedah 17/18th june with the Gemini (turbo 202) if it all works ok we are hoping to make the journey to Warwick with it this year!

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
If this was for circuit it would be very easy to convert it to a dry sump with the oil pump mods.
