Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
yeah but if that was the case wouldn't you remove the oil pump all together and run a belt driven oil pump ?
I mean you can use the oil pump mod to suck from a dry sump tank, but then you need the scavenge part of it to get it all back in there ? I would also expect if you were to do it that way you'd tap a few fittings into the block to allow priority oiling to where you wanted it which wouldn't work with the standard oil pump ?
I guess though if you had a scavenge pump draining the sump you could then have a dry sump and just using the normal 202 oiling!
stop putting ideas in my head lol!

When I saw the side plate my first thoughts were dry sump and like you said fit a scavenge pump to the sump pickup to a tank then to the side plate. I guess the length of hoses, location of the tank etc all needs to be considered to work properly. I believe the HSV with the 427 runs a dry sump setup but don't quote me on that one.
Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
I put a plug in to remove any chance of a suction leak & a dead end gallery.

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
yeah I guess if it was going to be a circuit car it would be worth doing dry sump, but for 400mtrs it will be overkill

That'll look pretty good against the gold engine block...

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
well................ I'm not sure I want a gold block with an alloy head ..... thinking I might go black this time, or maybe a dark blue of some sort ....
nah think its going to have to be black to match the wastegate/bov/fuel regulator.

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
From a weekend of barely opening the shed door, to a weekend where I barely left the shed!
Got most of the turbo manifold worked out and tacked together .... don't mind the red tape, its just holding the two pipes in place, I need them removed to make a hole in the pipe before re-connecting permanently.
turbo is about 1.5 inches away from the guard at the closest point, and its a fair bit further away from the inlet manifold now, as well as the dump pipe will run out of the inner guard well away from anything!
main thing left to work out now is the location of the wastegate, but that wont happen till it arrives in the mail - but I have plenty of welding to finish off in the mean time anyways!
now all that is mounted I've been able to work out what I need for the last of the coolant and oil pipes etc, so I have ordered the last bits I will hopefully need for them.
