An old friend was in the back seat of an FJ that got airborne and when it landed the spring mount came up through the floor. It was your typical rusty FJ. Anyway nothing wrong with leaf if their stiff enough and their a very simple suspension setup plus you can add traction bars or tramp rods.

Yeah planning to put traction rod/tramp bars on it
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

What about cal-trac style, they'd be easy to make, never used them but there supposed to be good

Love your work, can't wait to see it running, I reckon it's worth a trip to watch when it's finished ! Maybe we could organize a "hacking" weekend when it's finished, with plenty of "reference"

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
made some good progress today on chassis rails and then getting the motor trial fitted .. still reckon it needs to go back a bit, but I am going to get a radiator and thermo fans then see whats needed before I go too much further!
There is almost 100mm clearance here, but with radiator and fans I think I might need near on 150mm, so hense waiting till I can mock them up.
still going to need to relocate the turbo a bit, but no big deal!
just for "reference" the join in the middle of the transmission case is about where the original tunnel height used to come to! and that's without taking into account the 50mm main support rail across the floor under it!

And i didn't get a chance to get to the shed at all saturday and only after lunch sunday heheBiggvl wrote:Gee you don't mess around with getting things done
So much stuff going around in my head, gets me super keen to get out there and sus out whats what so at least then i can buy more bits or plan more etc for the next steps, its a bit of waiting game like that.
i spent alot of the early arvo trimming chassis rails to fit nicely and then mounted them up with some tack welds, then added some bracing to the floor (which also worked as a temp gearbox support) before i started cutting it all up.
The hole quickly got bigger as i tried to shoe horn it in
theres no doubt the turbo is going to need to be relocated and probably have to send the dump pipe out the inner guard above the front wheel, but aside from that its not looking too bad.
Last night i measured the rails and front area so this morning i have ordered an alloy radiator and some thermos, so once i get them i'll be able to dummy it up to see if there is any more requirement to move the motor back at all.
Its also going to 100% need rack and pinion steering conversion, but that was already planned anyways, more so for better steering, but will give me oil pump clearance too.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
