Would be hard to tell but you could get a rocker in a position where it's just opening/closing and see how much the crank needs to rotate back and forth before the rocker starts moving. Ideally you want to remove the LIM and just rock the balance shaft, much easier to see.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

I guess also it might depend on how sensitive ones "feel" is to the movements. Like a good or a bad safe cracker...:)
