Other / Past ride. The VK

Post by Streetholden »

To make it short and sweet unlike the VS one, ill just give some basics.

This is how i bought it. Mind you it had a stock rear bar on it. The white ones i custom made.

The car 90% completed.
Image

First mode. VS Berlina seats in it.
Image

I managed to blow the box.. $547 later i got it home with no box... Bunch of rip off they were.
Image

Just finished doing the grille on it.
Image

Where not to mount your amp if you cant in the boot.
Image

Finished the front bar and gave it some new headlights and indicators. As well as some shinny 17" x 8" wheels.
Image
Image

Then lowered it on SL i think it was.
Image

The best sticker i could think of to get made:
Image

"You cant kill a 202" Everyone gets told..

Time for the rebuild.

After that stage there is 50000 photos of the engine build.
Specs:
80tho oversize flattop pistons with moly rings. Shaved and ported head with some over sized valves. Alloy roller rockers. What they call a stage 2 cam. New bearings throughout. Rebuilt and jetted Webber something a rather, came of a XF foulcoon. Pacemaker extractors to a straight through 2.5. Rebuilt box, standard converter. I think im missing some stuff, going off memory.

Photo of the UHF antenna, but im showing you this is because the VS in the background is the one i built and am currently driving now.
Image

Then someone with a towbar reverses into me...
Image
Image

Replaced everything that was bent and broken, except the bonnet.
Image

And thats the short story. Sold it to a mate in the condition of the last pic for $900 whos going to rebuild it for power cruise.

Yea it was, then i built the new one. 80thou is way over the top, but it was the next size up to do. Seems to be going alright because my mate doesnt wear marks in the carpet from the pedal like i do.

that doesn't add up, cause 80 thou is huge, i would have thought if it was stock before hand it would only need 20-40 thou over bore .... oh well aslong as its still going thats the main thing!

Oh, i didnt use the same block again. I went and got one from a bloke local to me that had it at 60thou. Some 202 expert that races them and what not, apparently. 80thou your getting mighty close to the water/oil? It has way to big to be honest.

The cause for the stock to snap was either poor maintenance or the last builder didnt tighten up the conrod bolts. They slowly when lose then said fuck you as im at 130km/h down the highway. After that i finally could merge back into the left lane as i had plenty of room around me.

lol yeah that could do it!

everyone i've ever talked to says nothing over 40 thou for a race/high performance application, but 60thou is ok for a mild streeter ... but i haven't heard of 80 thou! but yeah i would agree would have to be close to water or oil!

i used to stock pile virgin bore motors for this very reason!

Yea, 40thou is a perfect balanced engine. Apparently measuring the bore to stroke. Yea, 80thou parts were very hard to get a hold off. I had to go to a loose ring specialist to get him to order some molys from the factory. Havnt heard back from the bloke i sold the engine to as i sold the engine from the VK to someone else and put a stoker back in it.

You cant get away using a 186? Cause iv always been told, 186 bored to the max is still stronger then a 202 virgin. Or maybe it was a 172. Im leaning towards a 172.

i'm not really sure if any is specifically better than another in that regard, all i can say is i've had all 202's and never broke anything by using blue/black motor bits.

well i guess it depends on what pistons you have, my 202 im re-building at the end of this thread https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9 is using acl race series pistons, and you can no longer get rings for them, but i have found out through my mate that 4ZE1 020 rings are the same specs as my race series 040 pistons, so there may be another bigger size if you need 080's ... but personally i'd be trying to find blocks that don't need to be bored to 080!

Yea thats true. Should have gone a stroker before boring that big. But im back to V6s again. Will get another VK when i can and rebuild it. But untill then, ill build my VS. And i think if i do get a VK i can only go a 308 :( New legislation past you can put a newer engine into a older car and still get a mod plate, but you cant rego it for the road. I think it was a car over the age of 30.

You say you can no longer get rings for acl race series pistons Holden202 .
That sucks .Ive got a set of 30" over acl flat tops in my vl that has vn inj 5.0 lt motor in it. So if i ever want to pull it down and do some more work to it i cant get a new set of rings .
Ive also got a set of std flat top 304 race series in the shed that i planned on using one day.
Acl used to be a good company but not anymore .
Last time i went to order a set of race series flat tops i couldnt get them, but to stop selling rings for such a popular product is really shit.
