My 1966 XP ex Geelong Taxi

Post by psyolent »

so today, begins the start.
as you may or may not know, my XP in an ex taxi. as you will see by the black underneath everything. its been re-painted twice while i have been alive, once by a dude on kororoit rd in newport in the late 70s and again in the 90s by a dude my dad new thru his work who used to maintain the fleet there.

growing up as a kid we named the car ‘the red baron’ as it was always red. all i have known all my life is this car, and, it holds a tonne of sentimental value to me. i learnt to drive in this car. the purists may knock me and say that the plate says BBB which is indeed, black for taxi spec, but, because of what it means to me i will re-do it in red.

so i rocked over to the reject shop for a looksee at crates. found some, and, snafued some snap lock bags for bolts and shit. they store really well in the engine bay. lol

i’d not seen this patch of rust before. anyone know why it exists here? its in the engine bay on the passenger side just before the rear rubber on the bonnet. it might be that water collects in the guard and then trickles down there over time? advice appreciated.

wiring behind the lights with the grille still in place

i found shims under the back of the drivers and passenger guard in the rear most location
Image

might have found the reason dad always had problems with his indicators :|

feeling like a ground?

aftermarket washer bottle and not the bag.

the starter motor wire

this is a ground cable which goes to the back of the head

the brake fail switch

as you can see the rubbers are eleventy million years old

enjoy. apologies if you're offended - as it is a ford ;)

Good idea, at least it would be reliable. Only problem is delcoing it.

but the 250s dont make any power.

I recall they only make 90 crank kw with extractors, weber and redline manifold lol

Dont know what they do with a cam, never heard anyone getting a cam for them before.

And 250s are very hard to find and get parts for. I helped one of my old boss change the 250 in his transit van and we went to 9 or so different ford wreckers before we found one, then another half a dozen auto part stores to find a manifold gasket. Was the biggest head ache ever!

All those cars and engine have long gone to the tip due to overheating and blowing gaskets and cracking heads.

9 cracks I counted on the old head. Wow!

If you are going to put a ford engine in put in a an AU or even BA engine. At least they are somewhat decent and dont blow gaskets.

no not really, Dylan asked for crowd funding to do one lol

only thing to really consider for 808 on an LS is VLs ignition module and the correct trigger setup which the LS may already have and away we go!
