Homemade Detonation detector. MAGIC EARS??

Post by V8hilux »

Just been reading all over the net getting ideas as I am learning to tune my own car and came accross something very interesting.

You pro's probably know the trick already but us learners sure won't.
Here is a link to a DIY device that bolts onto your ears and supposedly lets you hear the knock/ping while tuning/driving easier.

I haven't made it yet but will give it a go.

Cheers.

That would be like something my pop would make down the paddock... love it! Cheaper than a stethescope.

How would you route that into the cab. My luck I'd hit a pothole and stab it through my ear hole. ha ha

u dont have to route it to the cab u can hear it from under the bonnett

At work we have used 2 other methods good ol copper pipe with one end crimped and bolted to the block and the other end through the floor with the open end sitting up where you can hear everything.
Other method is a knock sensor of a HFV6 alloytech or captiva etc with the centre bolt bolted to the block with the 2 wires going into a normal 3mm phone jack ala just about anything these days and if you have an AUX jack in your stereo plug it in and away you go.
GM tried and tested
