Re: VR with l67 help needed

Post by vp304 »

So over xmas coming up i have some time of work so hoping to do this l67 swap
Today i fitted the l67 injectors to my vr buick motor and played around with the tune on standard 1 bar map sensor.
I got the car started runs just free revving in neutral pretty good.
Below is the tune i used / got to work , and i am using a innovate wideband sniffing from rear tail pipe that i have used on a few other cars of mine.
Couple of questions.
1. I am getting very lean around 15.7 16 af ratio on idle. I see is some idle fuel stuff but cant get my head around it. I tried to adjust the main ve map were the black dot was hovering on data trace but made no difference ?
When i free rev engine say 1500 to 3000 rpm ranges the air fuel ratios seem spot on around 14.7 or so.
2. Closed loop. I realized this maybe playing with my mixtures so i set the 2 temperature points for it to 120deg c each before enabling. When i aldl went to data dash it now showed open loop so looks like im on the right track?

Thanks for the help so far guys.
Once i get all this sorted and it starts ok from cold etc i will fit 2 bar sensor modify option in tune for 2 bar and then do the swap over xmas, and fine tune timing and ve maps on the road.

If you have changed injectors you should be able to fix idle just with the injector rate, and the injector opening times vs battery voltage tables. if its quite lean at idle but its ok elsewhere it sounds like your injector opening time data is wrong.

Antus thanks for the reply
This is what my injectors vs battery voltage table is. I really thought would be like 14v or so stable at idle so i would be ok.

Here is my injector data and ve table also.
I was really surprised i just altered the injector grams flow table till the car felt good by the pedal, While watching the air fuel ratios on the wide band.
Say from 1200 1500 rpm up to i free revved it slowly and steady to about 3500. The fuel mixture are like mint around 14.7 afr or so.

Maybe i wasnt changing the ve table enough at idle to see a change.
Been a long time since i played with this tuner pro software. But another car of mine i tuned on a adaptronic ecu the ve table only needed to go up a few numbers to see a decent change on the a/f ratio at idle etc say

I have a tune here for super 6 injectors, and while I havnt verified it personally, it has quite different injector opening times. I have:

Code: Select all

4.8 = 3.89
6.4 = 3.89
8.0 = 3.02
9.6 = 1.54
11.2 = 0.98
12.8 = 0.63
14.4 = 0.46
16.0 = 0.38
If they are correct, then the injectors are opening more slowly than the ecm thinks and that would be the cause of your lean idle.

Thats the best I can help, though. Hopefully someone else has some experience with these engines and can help with some known good values for those injectors.

Antus
Thanks for the help.
I have looked and asked around. I know is people that have probably done it and dont want to hand out their hard work etc etc. I can understand.
Im not asking for the whole tune etc if they have it.
Just the injector data and maybe timing map to get me going.
Will see how i go.
thanks again
