Vn 304 help needed

Post by vp304 »

Good family friend has a vn with fresh rebuild 9.5 comp standard intake stock injectors and crane 284 cam fitted.
He got ripped of on a mail order tune the car wouldnt even start.
So i said il help him out
I have a ostrich and vl400 hi speed coms from my old 5lt.
Also have wideband

I found this tune
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=375&start=50
For a crow 284 ? (maybe crow stage 2) standard injectors etc.
I opened it up the tune and compared to standard 12p 5l tune and see it just has slight timing and fuel tweeks.
And timing idle map also (im guessing to help get a smooth ish idle)
Nothing else has been changed over stock
Will this get me going ? Plus im guessing il have to raise the park / neutral part of the maps a little to get it idling decent with the slightly larger cam.
Can tweek fuel ve map once i get it started and running easily with wideban etc

Any help will be appreciated thanks :)

Yeah looks like it's the right one. The cam isn't too big so the idle won't need much of an increase.

On my car I have 212º cam with 109 LSA and I raised the idle by 50rpm and it idles virtually like stock, 220ish shouldn't be much worse. I would guess a 850-900 rpm idle should be plenty smooth.

Yeah that's my estimate as well. There is usually a rpm where cams suddenly run better and more stable.

The difference 50rpm made on my was a lot. cam seems way smaller than it was on stock idle settings.

Edit. My bad, it was 100rpm more, 800 vs stock 700.

Instead of posting a new thread thought i would post again in here.
have the car up and running on this tune.
Have wideband sniffing from rear of car.
Cruise and down low fuel mixtures are decent.
What happens tho is as soon as you return to idle it settles around 14.0 air fuel ratio but after 10 sec or so tapers down to like 12.7 12.9 ?
Ive tried adjusting the ve map down around the 400 800 1000 rpm cells down low but it dosnt do much ?
Ive searched on the tune and on the forum here and i see there is some idle air fuel ratio stuff but cant see if there is like a idle air fuel ratio it is trying to aim for etc after a certain time at idle etc?

I would think its these. For auto there is P and D settings as you can see in the search list.

There is also a table for closed loop idle VE but I have never had to use it, all the cells in that table are at 50% default.

Thanks vlad
My idle a/f ratio vs coolant temp is around 14.1 at 92deg c
Unless my coolant temp sensor was playing up as i couldnt get my ose plugin to work other day and maybe ecu thinks its cold all the time. Tho i had no engine lights on so dought that was the problem.
delay before ideal af ratio is set at 20 sec on my tune also

Im thinking if they don't match then you could use the closed loop idle VE, but iirc you need to enable a flag to use that table, it should otherwise be using the main VE table.

I could be wrong on that, so if anyone wants to correct me on that.
