Junkyard PCM Po1 writing over OS with another. PCMHammer

Post by m4xthr0tt1e »

Ok, I got a PCM from a junkyard with the 12208322 OS. My stock OS is 12212156.

I have read the file and created the bin but PCMHammer wont write the new OS to
the Junkyard PCM because it is not the same.

I feel like I am missing something simple.

I also have the XDF files for both OSs.

What started all this is GM Dealership wanted $150 to fix my speedo, it was somehow
off by 14% faster than it should be so I was going a bit slower. I bought it like that.
I also figured I'd try this out on another pcm before I brick my daily.

So after some youtube binging I ended up here with a workbench harness finished and a few
reads done. Most my time has been scouring the forums between here and GearHead.

In order to change OS's (Operating Systems) you need to do a "Write Full Flash (Clone)" ...

Please do a "Test Write" first! ... It may complain about different OS's, but it will allow you to continue because it is just a test!

Thank you, I have already done one test write but have to do 3 regular writes to get permission to use the clone function. I almost had it. Thank you very much for that clarification.

I am going to write the same OS over it 3x then do the clone.

That makes no sense, would you please create a debug log of the issue and attach the log.

It should be as simple as this,
Open PCMHammer,
Select: your device (if not already done)
Select: "Tools"
Select: "Write Full Flash (Clone)"
. . . . . . Answer Yes to the "This is dangerous" dialog
. . . . . . The File Selection Dialog opens
Select: The bin file you want to write
Select: Open

At that point it should head off doing it's thing ...

If it's not that simple something is amiss and if it's a PCMHammer issue we would like to know so we can fix it.

What device (tool, cable) are you using ??

I have been researching all day to learn some things I can change after finding https://github.com/Snoman002 on this site. I don't even remember if I tried LS Droid Legacy on my phone or PCMHammer from my laptop when I had that issue. I am currently cloning my PCM right now with PCMhammer.

- Just did a test drive, the Junkyard PCM works fine but changing the VSS ticks per revolution from 40 to 35 didn't change my speedometer at all.

The "3 regular writes before OS write" is an LS Droid feature.

It's tempting to add that to PCM Hammer too, but I think there's less risk with PCM Hammer because we do flashes a bit differently.
Please don't PM me with technical questions - start a thread instead, and send me a link to it. That way I can answer in public, and help other people who have the same question. Thanks!
