I haven’t played with Kess tool for a while but it used to only read the calibration data area and pad out the rest of the file with 00 or FF.
This meant wasn’t possible to update to a different operating software so be careful.
If the read is only taking a few minutes and not 20 minutes it will only be the calibration data being read.

You should find a section in the file around 1C2000 that has the calibration data in it, if you modify it you will need the checksum recalculated. Kess could do some versions on VZ V6 but not all last time I looked. The different programs have different checksum ranges and storage locations.

From out Saabs
Main OS: 0x00040000
Engine calibration: 0x001C2000
System: 0x001DCF28
Speedo: 0x001DEF18
Secondary OS:0x00400000 (512Kbyte), this is placed right after 0x001FFFFF in the readouts if I remember correct, otherwise the bin would have been filled with FFFF and taken much more space.
Everything before 0x00040000 is ignored as it's part of the boot partition and flashing via can is not doable (or even recommended as it's used for recovery) at the moment.

So if Iv understood right, dont need to read the secondary OS.. and realistically can ignore the OS if only doing cal reads.
