Ok, I suspect they are ignoring the "How to make work J1850VPW PassThru." question.

So, I sent another,
SVCI J2534 in ELM327 mode reports itself as STN1170 v3.3.1
How to update STN1170 firmware to current v5.6.7 ??

if this is what the registry has for your driver then it's basically only compatible with those protocols, getting a return 3 with pcmhammer means it doesn't do VPW?
Hi all,

What would happen if Gampy were to add the following to the Registry:
"J1850VPW"=dword:00000001
below the
"Name"="STIC - SVCI" entry?
like this

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PassThruSupport.04.04\STIC - SVCI]
"Vendor"="STIC Technology"
"FunctionLibrary"="C:\\Program Files\\STIC\\SVCI Passthru Driver\\SVDIPT32.dll"

MudDuck,

Great thought, it is one of the first things I did ...

The dll just doesn't have the capabilities!

BTW, registry entry order doesn't matter, it's a sortable view.

On another note, for the life of me I cannot get anything except STOPPED or ? out of the AT or ST command set from within a Terminal like PuTTY.exe
However PcmHammer seems to be able to get some responses up to a point then it starts choking on AT/ST commands ...

Like AT AR ... It chokes and pukes on it, thus no Auto Receive!

Yeh it's all in the cables dll, the registry is just populated as part of the driver install.

Is there another cable they make similar to this one, just thinking id try changing the reg key to another DLL and see if it repsonds even though it's not that cables right dll. Even the GM MDI dll perhaps?

I only have 3 dll's ...
svdipt32.dll, dated Jul 4 2020 - The proper driver, works, limited protocols.
vcxpt32.dll, dated Aug 12 2020 - No Connect
da1253432.dll, dated Sep 5 2013 - No Connect

They only allow you to download the software for the device you have ...
Yea, could probably create a second account for a different device, I'll have to have a look see.

Can you open it up and take some clear pics of the board? It'd be interesting to see what chip(s) are really in the box and see if the VPW pin is connected to anything. Models "ford / mazda" (who are the same manufacturer) would be why its got PWM and not VPW. They just make it per manufacturer so they can save a few cents and not implement the full suite of protocols.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Old but I wonder if this driver will be of use.

Wonder if it's possible to detect and downgrade the vcx firmware, this driver and firmware didn't have the limited 60 day license...
There is also a VCMII select that changes the behavior of the unit in it's firmware, this makes a difference in IDS at if it detects and works or not.

It's definitely different hardware to what i have, I have updated my old pos to try and use with newer software unsuccessfully... and to downgrade had to find the pins on the board to set recovery mode and successfully downgrade the firmware.

jxx, I'll try them, thanks ... I really don't expect any dll except from the manufacture to work, it is pretty specific.

I cannot open it, it's not mine, I've made an offer for it, I expect to hear this afternoon / tonight.

Yes, I want to open it REALLY REALLY BAD!
I want to see if it's a clone, emulated or if it's a real STN1170. The STN1170 functionality is broke, it could just be old firmware.
The AT and ST command set is not as fully implemented as my STN1110 that is older, however I do have recent firmware on my STN1110. (it's at v4.2.1, current is v5.0.0)
I've tried to update the STN firmware, StnFirmwareUpdater doesn't work on it!

For example: AT AR, is not implemented, and it chokes (no error) on ST PX ...

And something else is funky, it doesn't work from a terminal as the ELM specs describe.
PuTTY-Enter-ATZ-Enter_Com3_Com5.png
PuTTY-Enter-ATZ-Enter_Com3_Com5.png (4.4 KiB) Viewed 3572 times
Com3 = STN1110
Com5 = This tool (possibly STN1170)
What I typed is,
Enter
atz
Enter

PcmHammer can completely initialize the device after removing the call to send "AT AR" in ElmDevice.cs ...

Code: Select all

                    //!await this.implementation.SendAndVerify("AT AR", "OK") || // Turn Auto Receive on (default should be on anyway)
but chokes on ST PX if you try any actions.

The manufacture/developer has still not responded to the following two questions,

Code: Select all

  1. SVCI J2534
     How to make work J1850VPW PassThru ??
  2. SVCI J2534
     In ELM327 mode, reports itself as STN1170 v3.3.1
     How to update STN1170 firmware to current v5.6.7 ??
Their specs state it is J1850VPW capable ... whether that is through the ELM interface or J2534 interface is a mystery, the J2534 DLL is most definitely incapable of it!

There is at least a valid false advertisement case here if one wanted to chase it!

Does anyone know of an AT/ST command or Programmable Parameter that might change this effect ...

Just to be clear, opening a Terminal on the device in ELM mode should result in a command prompt '>' with the ability to type AT commands.
With this device it acts on each character entered at the prompt '>', therefore you cannot enter any commands.
For example typing ATZ results in it acting on 'A' and 'T' and 'Z' as three separate commands, therefor the STOPPED message.

HOWEVER, you can paste commands ...

PuTTY-Enter-ATZ-Enter-PasteATZ.png (2.6 KiB) Viewed 3567 times
I typed,
Enter
ATZ
Enter
Then pasted ATZ

I personally have never seen this, I am pretty familiar with both the AT and ST command set as well as the programmable parameters ... I have been searching over them in the last couple of days and find nothing that seems to fit the issue.

Any ideas ??
