Silicon Chip Magazine Sept 09 Wideband

Post by Rock_Lobster »

Hi all,

The current Silicon Chip Magazine (Sept 09) has a DIY wideband project. Uses the BOSCH Wideband LSU4.2 sensor.

FEATURES :-
* Accurate lambda measurements
* Pre-calibrated sensor
* S-curve output
* S-curve response rate adjustment
* Heat indicator LED
* Data indicator LED
* Engine started detection option
* Correct sensor heat-up rate implemented
* Heater over current and undercurrent shutdown
* Optional fast heat-up if correct conditions are met

Worth a read out of interest. Has a good explanation of how wide and narrow band oxygen sensors work.

Anyway to get an electronic copy of the article? Some of us are halfway around the world. ;) :D
2005 Dodge Dakota - The daily
1985 GMC Jimmy - A work in progress
1973 Datsun 240Z - The Toy, turbocharged and injected using GM EFI, and code59

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Part 2 is in the OCTOBER '09 Silicon Chip Magazine out now.
The kit, which is the board and case only, is $79.95 from Jaycar.

Part 3 will be in the NOVEMBER '09 Mag. This covers the separate display module, which is ~$59.95 from Jaycar.

So, it's probably the cheapest way to get into wideband.

The Techedge is dearer, but is capable of datalogging onboard. The Techedge display is connected digitally, where the silicon chip one measures the voltage output of the wideband controller.

Reading the article, I would guess that the Techedge would be faster too.

Still, The Silicon Chip unit would be great for tuning, and should be very accurate.

Worth a look.

so $76 for controller $56 for display then you just need a wideband oxygen sensor ?

Yep ( I revised the prices, as I was going off memory at the time).
The article lists Techedge as a source for the sensor and connectors, as well as Bosch & Audi/VW part numbers.

Techedge have a nice ad for their 2Y1 halfway through the article. As a comparison, the 2y1 DIY kit is $99 + GST,
and the LD02B DIY display kit is $49 + GST.

Techedge list the Bosch LSU sensor at $97 + GST

part of the article is on their website:
http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_111598/article.html

but the NAW_7s with its 4 digit display and tiny case, minimal assembly at 100usd still wins :)
