Different Genuine GM MAF's

Post by VX L67 Getrag »

There has been talk of different MAF's on various threads so I thought I'd post up all the info I have, correct me if I'm wrong with any of it anyone!

Dimensions Taken at entry (screened end) as I believe they taper from here

V6 N/a & L67 MAF= 19207202 = 78mm
LS1 5.7Litre V8 Gen3 MAF = 25178988 = 85.5mm
L76/L98 6.0Litre V8 MAF = 15900023(w/ honey cell) 15900024(w/out honey cell) = 94mm
I don’t have dimension on 5.7 & 6.0 LS2 = 25168491
& I don’t have dimension on V6 3.6Litre Alloytec LEO &LY7 = 12566846

handy post would be nice to be able to test those to see how high there ranges are, though i suspect it would not be greater than LS6 MAF, picture below on the LEFT, i have bench tested it to 14710hz

how do you bench test it that high, have you got an enourmous vacuum cleaner? lol

I've been trying to test the range of the 3 sensors I have here & not convinced by any of it!

So I went on the hunt to see if there was reported frequency range of GM sensors..
To no real avail!

But I did find this page & has a bit about Mitsubishi sensors first & then really has a go at GM sensors;
http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/maffrequencylimits

That being said I don't think much of the info there is correct & more than likely outdated!

Yeah, the limits they quote are guesses, and the non linearity is only a problem with the hardware converter box they are using to convert from GM to Mitsu. In our PCMs you do have access to the scaler tables and raw frequency counts, and i dont even know why you'd expect to poke a small diameter air pipe though a large hole maf (around the hotwire) and get an accurate reading. Obviously the maf assumes airflow is even across the whole pipe and is calibrated for that, and it would be in a typical installation.

O.K. Not sure whether my MAF testing was worth doing but here's the results attached.

Seems the Gen3 LS1 maf if tables left stock read a bit over 20% less Hz than stock so thinking if everything left standard & this MAF used & just adjust the base injector rate to suit it might allow for higher use?

I can't seem to get the L76/L98 MAF higher than 10800, but not sure if it's me or it's limit will test better when I get a vehicle that needs that much air!

What method did you use to test? Would you trust this data for MAF calibration (I ask because I bet someone will try it!).

Honestly I'm not 100% sure it's correct data the way I did it but seems to be pretty close?

I Have a VY on aftermarket LPG, so I just plugged the maf's in with it running on LPG but not even attached to motor so it could move as much air as possible & as The1 recommended in another post 50Psi of compressed air & a tube (I used a vacuum metal pipe section).

But yeah as I said not sure if it's correct data or not?
