VS V8 knock sensor
Has anyone had trouble fitting the genuine knock sensor on a vs v8 with a/con?
Looking at my files the knock sensor should've mounted on drivers side top near front!
It's the logical spot for it as its close to where head & top of block & most typical spot for knock event!
But the stud that holds a/con pressure pipe is in the way I can screw it in 180degrees but that's it!
Only way around it if it is the right location is if I use a flat sensor like subi's or my knock box uses, but not sure if it will need re-configuring for use with stock knock board or tune?
Or I could grind stud down but still not sure it would miss the pipe flange section!

Re: VS V8 knock sensor
the only ones i've seen are lower down in the block where the water drain plugs are.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

The oem sensors are broadband type - so replacing with a generic flat response sensor would probably give a lower signal level for the knock, and a higher level of background noise. You might get away with it, but I wouldn't expect you'd get great results.
Is there anywhere else you could mount the sensor?

I'll have a look if possible where picture is posted above, if that's where GM designed them than it will be right for that spot!
I just would have thought higher on block would be better!
I know with the l67 ecotec's the passenger side was always the first to see detonation, I wonder if the v8's have a more common side (just wondering why GM designed in drivers side).

Re: VS V8 knock sensor
They are always in the water drain hole on the drivers side.
So holden202t's picture is correct.

They have the drain port in both sides. Factory knock sensor is drivers side and the other side just has a bung.
Re: VS V8 knock sensor
mines got it in the passengers side bung just in front of the starter

Re: VS V8 knock sensor
Probably doesn't matter if it's the left or RH side, fluids are very good at transmitting noise but generally speaking the drivers side rear cylinders run the hottest so I would expect those cylinders would be the first to ping. Fitting a rear coolant cross-over seems to help fix that issue.

Also nice to know about crossover fix too!
Cheers everyone
