Crank Pulse Simulator

Post by slewinson »

Hey guys, just found this cool tool:

http://blogs.libreems.org/arduino-wheel-simulator/

Should be great to test the VL400 programmable ignition box...

Very neat! Will give it test.

I actually have my own trigger simulator running on an arduino for testing and dev of the module. Couple of buttons for various tasks and selecting the pattern, and a pot for RPM. Does automated RPM sweeps and trigger pattern errors for the module to detect.

Once I get a bench set up I may hit you up for a copy of yours. This one really caught my eye.

A few people are also using the jimstim. http://jbperf.com/JimStim/index.html

I like the above one though as its a bit more homebrew. But both they're all in the same ballpark. I think the jimstim gives you a few more pieces of accessory hardware compared to a regular arduino.

My ignition module can actually generate its own crank and cam signals for testing, the interface board sends the pattern to the main board to simulate an engine running the programmed trigger. Easy to flood an engine though, PCM has no idea the engine is not turning so fires injectors and cranks up the fuel pump.

If spark is enabled then all you need to do is add sausages and rotate gently.
