De pinning PCM Plug and ignition module Plug
HI.
Here is a bit of History.
I converted my VS S3 V8 manual Ute Back to Sequential injection.
New wiring harness
New Distributor
New Coil
New plug Leads
New MAF
New Air temp sensor
New 4 wire O2 Sensor
PCM
Canister Purge solenoid.
When I did my first run it ran fine and no DTC faults.
Now I am constantly getting the Error Code 49 ( Cam , Crank Signal intermittent ) about 10 min after starting the engine .
I have gone thru the DTC 49 Diagnosis chart in the Holden Sip manual , for a VT and VS Service manual Chart . I have had no luck finding the fault.
I can see in Turner pro the Cam signal losing connection.
After doing a bit of research here about the Fault code 49.
I think I might try and move the coil sensor wire out of the harness .
And Run a new wire from the Distributor to Pin D3 at the PCM.
I really don't want to butcher my new engine harness, this is why I thought I might run some new wires instead of cut the brand new engine harnes.
I have a couple of questions please, Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
!. How hard is it to de-pin the ignition module plug and PCM Plug? Any tricks to de-pinning
2. can I buy new pins for the PCM connector, Coil connector, Distributor Plug ?
3. What gauge wire and amps would I need ?
4. What is the best way to shield the new wires?
Cheers

I normally use a sewing needle to de-pin them. Its pretty straight forward once you get the hang of it.
You can buy new pins from eficonnection.com
its the micro-pack 100 series I think? for the ECU end. Dizzy is a bosch thing and obsolete if im not mistaken.

I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

There have been problems with this code related to new aftermarket distributors.
Not sure if your new distributor may be one of these or is a genuine Bosch one.

Re: De pinning PCM Plug and ignition module Plug
Thanks for the tips and link vlad01 and yoda69. I will give it a try.
Any info about de-pinning the ignition module plug please
Yoda69 It is a aftermarket distributor. No New Bosch dizzy available.
I have read a Bosch distributor may get rid of the DTC 49. I have a S/H coming.
I am hoping moving the signal wire will fix it.
Cheers

Re: De pinning PCM Plug and ignition module Plug
Have you got the condenser/capacitor that connects from coil (+) to engine metal installed? Most important, because it gives the spark current a path to travel from the heads back to the coil (+) which is internally connected to one end of the coil secondary. If you leave this capacitor out the car will still run but the spark current now has to travel though the wiring loom to get back to the coil, and it may cause some degree of hard-to-track-down mischief on it's way.

I have a older style condenser (Metal can type) ,connected to YE1 plug in the engine harness and the condenser earthed to the body
It was a old one i had sitting around from a early VS I think.
I am trying to source a new one to suit a Late VS S3 or VT , But it is proving to be impossible.
Tried Holden and it is no longer available.
Tried Bosch Australia, but they have no info on it. they could possibly cross match.
I can't find any specs or part numbers for it.
I have been searching the net all day for info on it.
All I know is the newer style VT condenser is , small black and rectangular . It also has a wire with a white female connector.
I think it is rated at 0.5 capacitance
.
Cheers

Just out of interest, why are you swapping back to sequential ?

My original plan for the sequential gear was , To use it on my old WB Ute. The plan was to rip out the 308 and 4 speed , and put in a 355 5 speed combo.
I am undecided on what way to head with the WB. I may strip the WB and do a proper ground up. or Maybe just freshen up the 308 , instead of a swap to a 355 combo
I purchased the VS Ute as a donor engine car, But the VS grew on me. As I do enjoy driving it more than my other cars
The WB has only come out of the shed, a couple of times in the last 20yrs or so. Its one of my long term projects or plan.
A few weeks ago I was replacing the clutch, and doing the sump gasket on the VS UTE.
I was thinking that I have had all this sequential gear for a few years now.
May as well use up the sequential gear on the VS, instead of it just sitting in a box waiting for the WB Ute.
I have collected too many toys and parts over the years. and i have too many plans at my age.
Cheers
