Yeah, I think you're right. The loaded resistors are 15k and 7k5, so could be 4 cylinder, per :
http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic. ... 100#p53167
https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewto ... =90#p50996
(Depending which way around those resistors are, it could otherwise be 6 cylinder.)

Yep. Thats 4 cyl and as linked above you can change the resistors to update for different number of cylinders. The NDS032S chip is the kalmaker security pal. You can leave it there or remove it if you are running 12P, but its needed for kalmaker sp3.

It sounds like you know what your doing but when writing the IC write an unstacked 32KB bin as thats the size of the DS1230Y.

j_ds_au did you decode the year 2008 from the numbers on the front of the nvram? If so, whats the format?
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Yes, that's almost right. 5th week of 2008 actually. Format is usually YYWW or YWW for most manufacturers, especially USA based (as in corporate HQ). The J suffix could be a factory identifier or a revision letter, there's no widespread convention with that. Sometimes the datasheet will give these details.

Silly question maybe.
Is netres required for a functional memcal ?
Correct me if wrong, its only used when limp home is initiated ?
Can i just cut them out ?
I don't mind swinging past Jaycar & grabbing some new resistors, i just have to ask that's all.

ill ditch the Kal chip, I'm only interested in 12P.

Yes netres is required. It sets the number of cylinders so the ecu fires the injectors at the correct time.

OK cool. That stands to reason why when i tried to fit another socket-ed chip to this Kal board it wouldn't work, yet does in its home memcal.
Excuse the terminology.

1 Year exactly i can retire this POS.
Its got me out of trouble however ive been plagued with problems.
Since the original Kal NVRAM no longer works, i just never bothered with it.
I purchased PCM Hack NVRAM board, however the ECU would scramble the bin file within 24-48hrs.
Cut a long story short, used it for logging only and burned a memcal each time.

So here it is, spread open.

Out of interest I lost a dyno tune I had done on a Kalmaker RT board after only 6 year's. Couldn't be to confident on the quality of there Dallas DS1230Y supplier from back in the day. That was a very long time ago now.

My unit is about 15 years old now. Was last used 3 years ago so it was fine for 12 years at least.
After reading this I think I may strip the Kalmaker stuff out of it cause I don't see a need to keep it for Kalmaker anymore.
