Alternative EEPROMs
So I figured I start a thread on what people can find as alternatives to EEPROMs and NVRAMs for addressing the issue of supply, mainly finding genuine items.
So would it be better to develop modern replacements on readily available parts?
I found this on mouser, nothing in aus though.
http://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Gree ... MWIFbfk%3d
http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/176/71060-3334.pdf
Still should replace the 27C512 with something reliable, cheap and easy to get for at least the mean time.
These are industrial rated version in the link.
I checked the pinouts are virtually the same just few NCs and VPP is internally generated for programming otherwise the same as the SST27SF512 for example.
So 28 pin board with 32-PLCC socket should do the trick.

So here is an adperter by the same guys that make the gq 4x.
Asked them if the pinout will be correct adaption for the eeprom above. Would be sweet if it is.

Re: Alternative EEPROMs
it's mainly assembly that's harder over DIP, DIP is easy to solder myself for what i do, keeps costs down. But eventually ill prob look at SMD.

Not new parts, but so far these have been the real deal and no problems.

Re: Alternative EEPROMs
Im thinking of just buying 100+ stock of SST proms from moates. They are the real deal. That way I can supply forum members for quite some time.

Re: Alternative EEPROMs
Id be interested in buying some. I recently contacted a member on here wh used to sell them but his stock was out. 10 would do me for a while but given the current numbers maybe I should be looking at 20.
Also I'd love to buy a stash of memcals I have about 2 in stock. If there's any around at a reasonable price I'd be interested.

Re: Alternative EEPROMs
1. The SST27F512 under new ownership (Greenliant; the PLCC32 version is still in production) :
http://www.x-on.com.au/DetailsPage.aspx ... DbhwZ7MQ==
2a. Search eBay for : PLCC32 DIP28 Adaptor
2b. Check for the correct pitch and pinning (description should list compatibility with 27C512, etc.)
2c. You may find the pins are too thick, so be prepared to replace them (alternatively select a bare-board adaptor and build it up)
Joe.
