L 67 converted VU

Post by frog »

Hi all picked up a VU ute with L67 and auto. I was told by the seller it had a stuffed box but it ran and was in OK nick so I grabbed it as it was dirt cheap. Got it home pulled the box out pushed the converter home and away we went for about three weeks. Parked at work under a tree and had ants every where and would not start jumped the starter and got it home again running like a pig. I replaced the starter relay and it cranked over but no spark. I put a normal relay in what I though was the EFI and things went a bit sparkly I didn't know relay terminals were different. Now I have a relay I got from ashdowns in there. I have power at the dash I can read fault codes but have no power at the ignition module. I have replaced the crank angle sensor. The relay I think is the EFI is on the guard side not the engine side as shown on the diagram under the cover.
The PCM is 3.8 AUT PCM Service number 16233396
16269068 DDRH bar code 8690685520703565
the BCM is 90278 313 MID
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you have blown one of the main fuseable links?

they all check for continuity. Maybe I am over looking some thing very basic. I have power at the ignition it cranks over but I have no power any where else. Correct me if I am wrong but the ignition module should get power and then pass it to the ECU after the rev's get to 400?

Your probably right about been simple but just doing some normal checks first. That 400 rpm is when the PCM takes over from the module controlling the timing, so nothing to do with what's happening.

Well if you checked all the fuses and all the fuseable links I am just trying to think what else it could be
So have you got no power at terminal 30 on the efi relay?

Edit: funny enough the wiring diagram shows the main power input to the efi relay is 87 then 30 feeds off to PCM etc and of coarse 85 and 86 trigger the relay. If you put your meter on 85 and 86 does it get 12volts when the key is turned on?

I have just checked and I have 12 volts at the 87 terminal at all times and 12 volts at the 85 with the ignition on. What were they thinking? Why not use standard wiring? I have also found a relay with a yellow stripe on it under the seat where does it go?

I just double checked and based on the markings on a seimens in0048 relay I have 12 volts constant at the 87 , 12 volts with ignition on at the 85 and earth at the 30 on the relay marked engine cont. relay under the cover.
Please help I am used to the 30 being the supply the 86 and 87 being triggers and the 85/85a being the activators this weird arse wiring is doing my head in. The bloody thing run so I am stuffed if I know what has happened

Bridge 30 and 87 with a fused wire and if it goes it is probably the switching side of things.
