I also noticed with the OEM one which was one that failed it was all rusty in the middle part. ZIP File has high res pics
Thanks for posting the great pics. What camera are you using?

Re: Coil Pack Testing
I have just had another V6 Coil give me trouble (breaking down under load). It is probably about the third time it has happened in the space of about 4 years on the same engine - 2003 VY V6.
The first to die was a MSD coil & the second two were OEM coils.
So been looking around to see what is available besides the OEM & MSD.
There is the Accel as sold by Summit & now I have looked at the ZZp coils.
They are out of stock currently but some of their answer quotes to question asked - "These high voltage coil packs will supply a stronger spark which will allow you to run a larger gap that will improve fuel economy, driveability, and HP capability. Not an earth shattering difference but a small gain. Definitely well worth the upgrade if you're replacing your coils". "47Kv Coil Packs" "MSD don't work right" "MSD a down grade from stock coils "
The also have a cut down pick of OEM,MSD & ZZp coils.
Any possibilities they would perform better than OEM & MSD ?

sounds like marketing slander there, watching this with interest..."MSD don't work right" "MSD a down grade from stock coils "
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

They do quiet a bit of interesting marketing over there and rip you a new one on shipping costs.Biggvl wrote:sounds like marketing slander there, watching this with interest..."MSD don't work right" "MSD a down grade from stock coils "

Yeah a bit like the alloy heads. Sure they address some of the shortcomings of the shit oem heads but they have manufacturing faults and don't flow much over stock. Couple of k needs to be spent on top to get decent flow and correct the issues.
Also they rape you hard on shipping when staying free international shipping.

I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Yep probably so.Biggvl wrote:sounds like marketing slander there, watching this with interest..."MSD don't work right" "MSD a down grade from stock coils "
Sent them an email asking when they would be back in stock - reply..... "We do not have an ETA when the 3800 coils will be back in stock unfortunately"
So is that marketing speak for never due to problems ?

Re: Coil Pack Testing
Its interesting that they show 9 vs 10 coils between the zzp and msd, implying with out saying more is better. Im not going to comment on if that is true, but because its the low voltage side of the coil having 9 instead of 10 is probably how MSD get the higher voltage spark, 10 is probably closer to OEM but its not clear from the images what the OEM ratio is. Also this is assuming the same number of coils on the high voltage side, which Im not going to attempt to count and without doing so makes the results inconclusive.
I like that the OEM coil has coil loops over more of the transformer core with even distribution. It actually looks to me like the best of the 3.
