VR auto/manual plug differance

Post by Cammo30 »

G,day guys, Im doing a VR V8 conversion in my FJ40 landcruiser, Ive bought a VR manual harness and ECU,
I already had an Auto loom and have noticed that the two black plugs (next to the grey plug for the AC) are different between the two looms, The auto has 5 wires and the manual has 6, also a diff type of plug, Im needing to know what the 6th wire is for?
I know this sound abit vage and im sorry but any help?

Cheers Cammo

what is the color of the wire? will help to identify it.

best thing on that kind of that kind of conversion that ive done recently is to literally cutoff all the AC stuff ect thats not needed then you are left with a few power wires and fuel pump relay to get the eng running.

If you go to doctor bobs site http://www.memcals.com he has wiring diagrams you can compare the differences
I done a swap in a vr sedan from auto to manual changing the harness from a vr and their was no left over wiring.
I think from memory i had one that had a vs manual harness in a vr and their was a pink wire in the harness that didn't go anywhere.

Thanks guys, ive nutted it out, but is there a way to bypass the anti theft? or does that need to be removed from the ECU?

if your meaning you have no BCM and need to disable the anti theft then yes you can do that be re-programming the chip.

These are the plugs I was talking about, The grey one ive worked out to be A/C related but the other is giving me trouble, anyone know what colour wire does what? The manual loom has 6 wires in the black plug, as the auto loom only has 5 and has a different plug.

I mapped all of those wires out not 2 months ago on a VS manual loom. shoulda wrote it all down.

im pretty sure the below is right, but youd better double check it.
in terms of gettin the thing running you need to provide power to (your labels)

Red - pin 1 (batt +) for ecu permanent power
Red pin 5 (ign +) for power to injectors and coil
Green white pin 2 is the trigger for your fuel pump relay
purple pin 6 goes to pin 87a on fuel pump elay, its the backup power for the fuel pump from the oil pressure switch

cant remember waht pins 3 and 4 are, I think one might be the power to the VSS

on the other loom youve got (in no particular order)
wire from small one wire coolant sensor for dash guage
aircon trigger
oil pressure dash light
trigger for the thermo fan

you also need to provide ign power to the pink wire on the clear plug near the ecu

I honestly cant remember the rest but they werent too important :P

use a multi meter against this table to get what the rest of the pins do.

http://www.oldholdens.com/temp/carstuff ... s/VR%20V6/

have a look here, the two p106.... files are a copy of the factory manual diagram, hopefully they are readable enough, the second file has the plugs listed in it with their wires then use the first file to find where it is and what it goes to etc.

also scan 1 2 and 3 files are the same diagram in higher quality but they don't have all the plugs on it.
