Conversion Issue

Post by Newbie »

Ok Guys,

Hopefully somebody can shed some light on a issue i having because its got me stuffed.
I have a car that the guy fitted a 5l VQ engine too that originally ran in the car for a couple of laps around the block then it dropped a cylinder then after a couple of hundred meters droped a couple more then died and hasnt gone since . When the engine winds over it trys to fire but wont start. It will flood engine very quickly if engine is would for 10secs or so to the point you need to pull plugs and wind over to clear engine. I tested quickly with dry engine and fuel pump disconnected it wont fire with a puf of aero start.
Removed manifold fuel seems to have pool on vavles

The wiring was dodgey were the guy relocated some of the wiring into the cabin but has been rectifed. It has a v6 conversions harness.
Here is a list of what has been done to date:-
  • New distributor timed correctly( original check fine with osilliscope
It has good spark and injector pulse
    new plugs leads and coil
new ignition module plus tried 4 others
    injectors cleaned and tested
    compression fine and even 130psi
fuel regulator -fuel pressure and flow fine
    Replaced wiring harness
All wiring integrity check including sensors and earths.
tried 3 ecus all removed from running cars
All valves opening and closing No lobes off cam shaft
manifold removed to check manifold for manifold leak
Map sensor and oil pressure switch replaced
Im sure i have coverd everypossible thing to make a old 5l to run but it just wont . I replaced the map sensor as i am aware that it locks injectors open and floods engine if faulty
If the thing never run i would have assumed it was still some wiring issue but everything has been replaced and subsituted at least twice.
Any advise would be appreicated very much.

Thanks Guys

If it was a V6 engine conversion harness, wonder if it has a V6 memcal, in which case it may have the V6 NETRES controlling fuelling which will cause it to run rich, even if it has been flashed with the correct V8 calibration.
Can you put a photo of the memcal up here and any numbers/letters off the chips on the memcal if they can't be read from the photo?
Also any chance of reading the calibration of the chip and posting it up?

I would try putting the old plugs or bosch back in just for a trial
standard ngk's under rich conditions in holden v8's fail almost instantly seen it 2 many times myself and i would be very surprised if that isn't your problem.

I have tried the different plugs no go.
V6conversions is the company that make the plugin wiring kits for the delcos,
It is the correct memcal It is just a BAAP I have tried 3 different ecus and mamcals have even loaded a stock base tune in to my emulator but no difference.

Are your injectors standard size ?
Have you checked that the spark at the lead can jump an inch in open air ?
What happens when you use clear flood ?
Have you checked pulse width at the injector with an oscilloscope?
Are you able too data log ? if so post a log up . :study:

Stock injectors
Spark seems strong using spark tester also the old screw driver method
injectors were pulsing at about 3ms from memory while cranking but i can test again
