VR auto to manual wiring.

Post by pungent »

I have a VR V8 auto ecu and engine wiring harness and going to be running a manual box.

Can someone let me know if what I am going to do will work or what issue's it will cause or a better way around it.

Going to follow wiring diagram and eliminate all the wires out of the harness that are for the auto box.

Only wires that will be left will be what the engine needs to run as well as all obvious essential wiring, speed sensor, ignition etc etc.

After doing this if I load a factory VR manual def file will there be any issue's.

Any help appreciated and thanks in advance.

vr auto and manual are different pcms, so that approach wont work so well. You can run an auto ecu and disable the error codes (or set the manual flag?), but the speed sensor will give you some trouble.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

That's what I was hoping not to here lol.

Turning of stuff for the auto in the tune don't worry me and speed sensor is already going to be a bit of a pain as I'm going to be running a supra 5 speed.

the manual flag, can you give me any more info on that please?

Manual flag is not in the VR auto code so just need to disable all the auto fault codes.

The speed sensor on a auto is a reluctor (sine wave looking signal) and a T5 manual is hall effect (square wave). Need to find out which sensor type the supra 5 speed has.

Yep went through the auto tune and couldn't find the manual flag.

Will look into the type of sensor for the supra box. What do I need to change to be able to match to a particular sensor.

I was going to speak to Dellow's and see if they had something that would bolt straight up and work but still on list to do and if it's straight forward may as well do it my self.

Thanks to everybody for all the info so far.

Their is a purple wire with a white trace near the ecm for speedo input from the manual box
Where the auto shifter is their is a plug 4 pin i think can't remember the colour codes but one side is inhibitor and needs a jumper wire.
The other is the reverse lights

That will keep the dash happy, but the PCM wont see a speed signal.
