WTB: Moates Ostrich
Hi,
Does anyone have a moates ostrich laying around they no longer use?
I have an ongoing need of one and mine died in a flood
unfortunately, moates.net has closed and new ones are no longer made.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a similar Non-NVRAM based realtime Rom emulation solution that is 32 pin and 28 pin compatible that is still available to buy?

Re: WTB: Moates Ostrich
Would it help if I open mine up & take pictures for anyone with the skills to try & replicate it?
Re: WTB: Moates Ostrich
I don't think so. It may help to make a hardware clone, but to make it work it'd need firmware.
If you wanted to replace it'd you'd probably search for 28 pin dip eprom emulator and find something like https://mygeekyhobby.com/2020/07/05/eprom-emulator/ and build that, then get to work on modifying it to talk the moats protocol or create a new plugin like oseplugin for tunerpro.

Re: WTB: Moates Ostrich
Can I extract the firmware off my device for anyone else to use if they make that device?
Re: WTB: Moates Ostrich
depends on a whole lot of things. if its a chip that can be read, that you have the tools to read, and that isnt locked in any kind of way then yes. Usually they have a lock fuse or lock bit and cant be read without an erase, or not at all, though. Plus because of its age whatever chips they used are probably hard to get now. Then if its physically possible, there is the copyright angle. Probably fine for you to replace your own though.
