I reckon you might best of using the map you have, and pull some timing out of it at the load point your hearing knock.

Also note that in theory LPG is around 110 octane, thats why it'll take more timing but its hard to get a straight answer on that and sounds like it varies.

I think pure propane is something like 110 octane but nowadays the motor fuel stuff gets butane and some waste gases like propylene and other rubbish chucked in just to get rid of it. Kinda like how they make meat pies. I suspect the stuff you buy for bbqs might be different because the cylinders sit around for long periods without being shaken around and with a mixture of liquefied gases they might separate into layers so they might more likely be pure propane. My pet theory.

LPG can vary between 110-100 octane depending on how much butane and crud they put in (supa gas is 100% propane and around 110 octane), it is very hard to get an LPG engine to knock due to timing most of the time it is due to the mixture being to rich,

BBQ gas and house gas is pure propane, you can NOT use auto gas in house appliances as the auto mix puts out more CO CO2

i'm not saying that auto gas wont work in a bbq, it works well but the problem is the high amount of CO and CO2 produced hense why it is ilegal to fill bbq bottles with auto gas at the servo and can carry a fine of up $20,000, using it in an enclosed space could KILL, if you are using auto mix use it in a well ventilated area and DO NOT use it in a caravan, in saying that it comes down to the quality of the gas the discount auto gas i would not recomend, i had a customers car that had a bad tank of gas and when i burnt it off it burnt yellow and my 4 gas was showing extreamly high carbon monixed at 1 meter from the burner, the reading was higher than a poorly tuned petrol car
