Memcal tune needed

Post by Ned222au »

Hi fellas I'm basicly looking to someone to change the ppk to something more apropiate for a 1990 Toyota surf running a VN series 2 v6 3.8 r150 gearbox 4.55 diffs 31inch tyres and Delco 808 .I've own it for 4 years 25.000klms done and after reading whats on here :wtf: I have no vss it never hast but it will log 24 .therefore has this made the ecu go into limp mode the whole time I've owned it?.I achieve 15l-20l per hundred depending the type of driving .the vss I intend to try is the reed switch in the dash I found the vss wire and it pulses 0-5v the vss ecu wire is 12v would this work? Its a 4 pulse reed switch.thanks for your time.

Not sure how code 24 will affect limp mode but it can be turned off. The pulse generator unit you need will be a Hall Effect which are available to fit inline with the speedo cable. Pretty thirsty beast.

What you really need is a good tune using a wideband and logging to determine what needs to be done. Some programs include lean cruise mode that can help reduce fuel consumption but it may just be the nature of the best.

normal for most conversions people don't put the VSS in there.
FWIW the surf dash (and i think hilux) actually have a usable VSS output which you can use.

once the PPK is sorted and VSS is in place your economy will improve out of sight.
also FWIW the 700R4 speedo sender screws into the R150 gearbox.

I have a 5 litre in my hilux with the same R150 box, 31's and 4.88s and get similar economy on LPG!

Hi I've fitted a passive two wire el falcon abs sensor with bracket to transfer case .then cut 60thou feeler gauge in half and bolted it under two yoke nuts opposite each other as targets .wired sensor to ground and pin a10 brown\yellow wire at ecu.

I then went for a drive engine cuts out at 70kh  climbed underneath removed one target drove 300klm now cuts out at 150kmh I can live with that.the car now drives alot better all round more like a commodore than a hilux fuel consumption now 12-15l per 100km that's great compared to the 15-20l per 100km I was getting for 4 years .I have no idea what ppk its giving the ecu but its obviously a lot betting than nothing I will have to get it logged to see and still get the ppk value changed in tune.this motor came out of a auto sedan so there's more to be changed in tune I guess. I'm happy as with the way its running now its so much better and I checked for codes good old 12 came up instead of 24 that I was always getting .sensor $10 from wreckers .

its probably reading wrong in the computer so it cuts fuel at 70km, but the computer probably thinks its 220kms, you can change that in the tune
