Post by Pete30nz »

Standard VR v6 auto, Memcal supplied by you, and a tune please.
Also has an 82' thermostat installed. Filter box bigger mouth also installed. Removed bellmouth.

Cheers

There are some gains to be had with a re-working of a stock tune.
Have you checked out Mace. They say 8-12 kW on a stocker, which is not bad considering they only had 130 kW from factory.
If you free up the exhaust side as well as the intake, you will get better gains.
If you have no luck here at least you have an alternative (and something positive)...

There is none actually. I have done this on the dyno and only lost power, the factory tune is already spot on for a stock engine with stock cast ex manifolds.

Only once you get pacemakers or similar can there be any gains, the stock engine is completely limited by the case manifolds so no matter what intake side mods you do there is no gains, even with tuning.

With the exhaust side of things, how much exhaust would need to be replaced?
I've read some people say from the cat convertor back only.
Other have said extractors can lose torque I think it said

I have looked at mace in the past.
Maybe that's the new go to now.

Cat back can stay stock, no real gain there, get a set of pacemaker, there is about a 15-18kw gain and much improved torque especially at the low end. You will also need to get a good airbox like the MACE CAI box, remove bellmouth and everything else can stay stock. I have a tune to suit that combo.

But without extractors any sort of tuning it only goes backwards.
