V6 cam specs.

Post by vlad01 »

EDIT 28/01/21

Added more cam specs, changed this page to be more for cam specs than anything else.

I have always wondered how to calculate exhaust designs and implement them in a tune.

I figured its time there is a 101 on exhaust and cam selection thread

I have no idea other than some online calcs for extractor primary and few things like that. So please feel free to add so everyone can learn this mysterious subject.

perfect example is.... you upgrade the exhaust, catback, tuned extractors etc... So what does that mean for your stock engine and its tune?

EDIT:

a Holden V6 cam spec list. Source: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/v6- ... tions.html

As some of you might know, Clive cams ended up with all of Wade cams profiles.

I managed to get the true cam card for the Holden Formula V6 engine from Clive.

I don't think theres going to be any specific answer other than afr's on a wideband at certain load point will tell you how fair out it is.

yeah i am not being too specific. more generalized questions I am throwing out there for discussion.

like for example. You do some work to your engine, ported heads, speced up cam, now you need to choose or make an exhaust to suit your configuration and I see that is very important as it can mean few to several 10s of hp worth and general running of the engine can be improved by selecting/designing the correct exhaust.

looking at the Aussie parts market, I think there is virtually no thought given to an exhaust system because every configuration is different but with some guidelines and calc you should be able to choose the closest aftermarket exhaust config to suit.

I noticed with the V6 engine there is several designs out there with the big names and all vary in length of primary, so why not choose one based on what the engine needs?

Then the rest can be dialed in with the seat of your pants

http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm every racing related calculator you really need length is easy they have header length calculator and another header calculator.a lot of people build mean engines and then fit off the shelf headers and kill a lot of power the gains of building custom are often worth the cost.a good engine sim program is helpfull too

Funny that, I looked at your link and noticed the header calc had already been open before then I looked at the tab for the header calc I was using and its from that site lol.

Ok for an exercise I chose a crow cam, mild one for ecotec. which is something pretty well ball parked for what I want, then ran the numbers through the header calc and came up with 35" primary, 1.49" primary dia, 2.9" dia collector.

From what I can see the pacemakers fit really well with the diameters, but lengths there is no specs for them so I can only measure them in real life unless someone knows them of the top of their head? but 35" sould pretty close to what they look like.

So far so good.

got 38" and slightly smaller diameters for stock VP engine, Sounds like pacemakers are right on the money but I'll measure mine to be sure and see how close their design is to the numbers for shits and giggles

ahh thats the company some guy told me about but I forgot and been wondering for nearly a year what the name was.

EDIT: Their stuff looks real good, no V6 stuff listed on the site though but they do custom work.

Just updated this original post to include more cam specs and make this thread cam spec related instead of exhaust tuning.

The original cam listing on JC forum is dead it seems and there was only a single snapshot on the wayback machine... lucky.
