T5 shifter?

Post by vlad01 »

Looking to get a high quality T5 shifter but I have no idea which are good. I have talked to a few trans specialists and some advice against some for and brands and stuch.

Have looked at many and it seems they all trick the criteria but miss 1 or 2 and can't find one with the combo of everything I need.

Quality
reliable
direct replacement to the OEM (ie, same height and takes OEM boot and lever)
Moderate throw, too short damages the syncros, that is why a lot of trans specialist advise against and wont warrant the box if used like ripshift brands.

Closest one I have found is cube shifters but seems too cheap in price to be good.

Hurst make a nice one for Pontiac but is too tall so the stock floor boot with have issues and interior boot will be stretched upward and interfere with shifting.

Im happy with stock shifters but they are hard to find in reasonable condition and tremec wont sell them separate to the gearbox.

Any ideas?

The malwood shifter looks as OEM as they get. Are they any good? very pricey but a lot of them are the same if not more expensive.

there is 2 price ranges the shifter seem to live in 70-150 and 300-600 mark.

I have both a cube speed shifter (in a VL) and rip shifter (the Gemini) and honestly, the cube speed one is really, really good. They are shorter throw, and do speed up the syncros a bit, so long as you don't force gears, I think they're fine

yeah looks pretty good. the centering spring setup is so simple its stupid. Dimensions look more or less stock so all the boots should work fine.

I have the Billet T5 shifter. It's a short shifter, shorter throw but has positive stops to prevent you busting the syncros. Factory shifter bolts to it and sits a bit higher but not to much (se pic for height comparison).

I ran it with the factory boot.

That Cube shifter looks the goods. Might be able to adapt the factory shifter to it.

That looks really good and the positive stops are a lot better than any I have seen before. Are the stops adjustable?

Yep, 3 little bolts on each plate. It's a night and day kinda difference between the Billet Products and OEM shifters.

Not sure TBH, I got it through a group buy on JC many many moons ago. Possibly ~$225 back then (at a guess).
