How do you identify a 5.7lt Holden motor in a VS?

Post by Gareth »

Wondering if anyone out there knows how to identify a Holden stroker motor without stripping it? Do engine numbers tell something? Other than the PCM and a badge I'm not sure if the motor in my VS grange is a stroker or not, the car was originally not a stroker car.

Any ideas?

To find out if it's a stroker remove a spark plug and measure from tdc to bdc of stroke, 304 = 3.026 and 350 = 3.48".

also strokers have bigger injectors. the injector part number and memcal code would be a really easy place to start. if its got 19lb injectors its either not a stoker or would be super lean and not running right lol.

I think a stoke measure to be sure like comcal76 suggested will be the only sure way.

The injectors are orange top, the PCM was fitted with BWFW (5lt manual) in a BWCT case (5.7lt auto) when i got it :?

It certainly didn't run well when I got it.

There are exceptions and it could have been re-stamped, but the engine number prefix for VR/VS strokers is VL where (most) VN-VS standard engines are VU prefix

Not to mention we all know there's those nasty drilled injectors out there, although a file read with comparison to correct injector rate for cc size would sort that out!
Is there an easy way to get stroke length with spark plug hole not giving a good angle to get full length on most V8 angles?

The engine number starts with VU, I'm fairly certain now that the only thing that is a stroker is the person who fitted the PCM, Memcal and rear '215' badge....

Now to set about de stroking it :D

I was under the impression that the factor stroker was a VU motor still? No doubt I'm wrong.
