Exhaust Gas Temps

Post by mpdaff »

Hoping someone may be able to share some info on exhaust gas temps. What I am looking for is an idea on what temps to expect on a NA Holden 5L. Also if anyone can suggest what a safe max temp might be.
My 5L in my Landcruiser tends to sit at 666 degrees c under load at 2800 to 3200 rpm & at around 550 degrees c at 2200 to 2600 rpm light throttle cruising. All input will be appreciated. Many thanks to all who contribute. Cheers, Mike

I would think 600 deg under load is a good reading. I did some dyno testing when I worked for TAFE and found out that if the temp gets up you have a problem with lean mixtures and retarded timing so with that we had many cars running around the 600 deg and a bit more.
