Oil Additives

Post by brindo »

For anyone who is interested, I have taken some samples of some new Penrite HPR30 and the Nulon 20W50 High Km (it was on special for $13 at Repco). The values shown are rounded slightly, but from oil analysis I have done previously on the HPR30 using a different lab reported significantly higher values for zinc, phosphorous and molybdenum.
Anyway, values are below.

Penrite HPR 30
Zinc 1100
Phosphorous 1000
Molybdenum 115
Sulphur 1930
Calcium 2820
Boron 60
ISO 19/16/10

Nulon 20W50 High Km
Zinc 830
Phosphorous 760
Molybdenum 0
Sulphur 590
Calcium 1570
Boron 0
ISO 17/15/11

The penrite lines up with my results when I got an analysis done many years ago. I believe it was either hpr 30 or hpr 40.

The nulon is similar in values to the penrite enviro grade oil and other low emission APIs.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

I guess the results vary with testing methods and labs. And probably oil batches.
The HPR30 I ran through the ALS lab came back with over 1300 of zinc, 1150 of phosphorous and 150 of moly. The others were about the same.
Anyway, if I get any more oil tested will post up the values as this info is usually hard to come by.

I found mine from about 10 years ago. It was penrite 10w40 hpr something

Only thing that was abnormal was slightly high silicon, probably from the sump gasket where I put on a heap of rtv to try stop the bastard from pissing out oil, all in vain I might add.
