Ford Pcm/Bem security/immobiliser

Post by pman92 »

I realised there's no ford section on this forum but thought someone might know something anyway.

I'm a mechanic/auto elec apprentice and got a job at work today that I really need more info on.
Vehicle is a 03 BA falcon auto. It unbelievably had a LH front tyre blow out, which destroyed the guard and the vehicle stopped running.
Since it only stopped running after the blow out, the customer replaced the PCM with a second hand one from the wreckers. (The PCM is mounted above the LH side guard in the engine bay).
He also claims he got another auto elec who specialises in engine conversions (works for CAE) to lend him a manual PCM with the security turned off to try out. It started and ran.
I don't doubt this as I know the other bloke personally but don't know a lot about it myself.

Anyway, he came to us to get the new PCM programmed to the BEM. Not a big deal I've done several of these before after we have replaced BEM's for various reasons.
The catch is he only had 1 key with him.
I done a 'Parameter Reset' as its called on our scan tool to link the PCM and BCM. Tried starting it, and it fired and ran for 3 seconds then cut out. Put the noid light on it and surely enough it was loosing injector pulse as it cut out. Scanned it and had about 3 codes relating to being immobilised.
So I tried re learning the keys. It clearly states on the scan tool before you do so, make sure you have TWO keys. The customer only had 1 but I tried anyway.
Ign off, first key in, ign on, door locks cycle, Ign off. Now you are meant to insert the 2nd key and switch it on. Door locks should cycle twice etc.
seeing as we have no 2nd key I waited the 10 seconds and let the locks cycle to say it's finished.
Vehicle would now not crank, security light flashing rapidly still, and it threw a B something code 'number of programmed keys below minimum'.
So we got another key, redone the 'parameter reset' (which takes a bloody long time), and re done the keys. Minimum keys code cleared fine, however we cannot clear the p1230 theft detected code with either of our 2 scan tools, the vehicle does not crank at all. The BEM has no codes.
Key fobs programmed and central locking working fine.

Vehicle cranked and fired briefly before I tried programming the 1 key in, now doesn't crank at all. Even after programming keys again.

What's the go with this? Can anyone shed some light?
Is it possible we have locked the PCM by creating the '# of keys below minimum'?

Thanks in advance

Find it hard to believe that a tyre blow out could fuck a PCM...more likely the connector behind the lh headlight coming apart.

To 'un-immobilse' leave a trained key on for 45mins, if you programmed them correctly then it should go, hope that helps :hmm:
