PPRS (REVS) Vehicle History Lookup! Services over priced?!?!

Post by Tazzi »

Soo, looking at getting a BA/BF Ford XR6 turbo. Unfortunately its not gonna be a fun personal new toy, rather the poor thing is gonna be my guinea pig for all BA/BF components

I originally searched "REVS" check since that was it use to be called, but now the name has been changed to PPRS.
Went to go lookup the history of the vehicle based on its VIN, and what do I find, tonnes of little overpriced "Car history lookup" services which cost anywhere from $20 to $50 per vin!
Like damn, I dont want to be doing that everything I checkout a car. If I was 100% certain I wanted then yeah thats fine. But just as a "quick" check, its not really reasonable.

Just some of the overpriced little buggas:
http://www.ppsrcheck.com.au/
http://www.revscheck.com.au/
http://www.carhistory.com.au/
http://www.revs.com.au/

So I did more searching on the useless government sites and FINALLY found the official government PPRS search, and what do ya know... it cost only $3.40!!!!
Here is a link for those interested: https://transact.ppsr.gov.au/ppsr/Searc ... earch&si=4

Some of those vin checkers actually EXCLUDE some information that is given by the official government documents and they make you pay more for those extra details!

Im just in shock that the government cant even make a simple task like searching a vehicles vin easy to find. There site is clunky, and hard to follow. I over looked the vehicle search a good 10 times.

But.. being the nosey bugger I am.. I did a search on the domain owner of a few to see what other little names he has stored away... an what do ya know! More government search/lookup services such as credit check ect. And theres another 10 domains all doing the same sort of thing for different services available on the government site (Although hard to find!).

Just unbelievable. I mean.. $35ish is a bit extreme.. for literally doing nothing.. but forwarding a pdf produced by the gov site...

*end of rant*

Bugga indeed!

It used to be free to check if there's money owing or reported stolen, you only paid if you wanted a certificate or other details.

Yeah I read something about that. But looks like they chucked a fee in since you cant search the vehicle for any info without paying first!.

Super easy though, only a few dollars and there is piece of mind.

The government put REV's there to prevent the trade in stolen or encumbered vehicles but looks like they don't give a s--t anymore for the public but found another way to make more money.
