BA BF PATS Disable

Post by pman92 »

Hey guys,
Just wondering if there is someone I can send a BA 6CYL PCM to who will disable PATS and send it back?

Have a vehicle at work with something wrong with the key or BEM, and considering the age of the vehicle it may be more cost effective to disable PATS than to fix it.

What would someone charge?
What would be the turn around time?

Thanks in advance

You can send it my way if you like just for cost of pcm licensing & send with reply paid postage bag inside & can do... I think licensing costs around $150 atm with Aussie dollar!

PM if interested!

I've done a bit more research and it turns out while it will fix the problem of the engine starting and running, the ICC and radio won't work. So it looks like it will have to be fixed properly.
The ICC currently displays 'CODE' and radio doesn't work

Sounds like it needs a parameter reset, that will fix the ICC issue. Most scan tools can do that.
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Found the problem.
Ignition switch recently played up, someone else fitted a second hand column (switch is part of column) and left the customer with 2 sets of keys, 1 for door and another for ignition.
The set of keys for ignition look brand new which I thought was odd, if they fitted a second hand column why not second hand keys?

Got the locksmith to check the ignition key, thinking if it's a faulty transponder would be quick and easy to check before we go any further. He says straight away it doesn't even have a transponder it's a mechanical key only.

Explains why it started sometimes and not others, the original keys with transponder were on the same key ring and it must of been reading that sometimes and failing others.
Also explains why it wouldn't recognise either new key when I attempted to program them in.

Locksmith says there's a kit he can use to return ignition barrel to original key, and they will be back with 1 set of keys (the original ones with transponder) for both door and ignition.
If they had of done his to start with instead of replacing the whole column would of never been an issue

You need to do a key relearn with ptdiag or forscan to make the radio etc work.

ok just to re-cap:
-Car came in, wouldn't start but cranked 9/10 times. Found no injector pulse.
-Attempted to re learn keys, failed, wouldn't recognise keys. Now immobilised and DTC to say "# of keys < min."
-Locksmith found keys didn't have transponder, but old keys on same key ring did. Locksmith returned ignition barrell to take original transponder keys. Keys now learnt perfect and done parameter reset. Still cranked but only started sometimes.
-Still (incorrectly?) thinking immobiliser issue, fitted second hand BEM. Relearn keys and parameter reset. Still cranks but doesn't start.
-Noticed always worse on cold mornings. Poored boiling water over PCM, starts every time. Cold water and ice over PCM, fails to start every time.

So turns out it was PCM.
We have fitted a second hand one, done a key re-learn and parameter reset, which has fixed the no start problem. Now starts and runs without fail.

HOWEVER, radio now displays 'code'.
Guess it's because VIN number in second hand PCM now doesn't match Audio Control Module.
Have read about a "ACM Match" procedure you can do with forscan etc. There is no option to do this with our scan tools.
Is this correct? Can a ford dealer do it?
Thanks in advance

Did you learn at least 2 keys? You can't relearn a single key.

Yeah 2 keys.
When it failed we were trying to program keys that were mechanical only (someone fitted a 2nd hand steering column when ignition switch played up, and had seperate door and ignition keys).
We got the locksmith to replace ignition barrell, so now original keys are in use (that also fit door barrell, and have a transponder).

Keys have both programmed, door locks cycled once for first 1, twice for 2nd.
No DTC's
Both keys now start car and it runs and drives.

Problem now is only radio/ICC display showing "CODE", since we fitted 2nd hand PCM

Pouring hot water over it and fixing it definitely says it was a hardware problem. Didn't read that the first time!

You need to do a full relearn to get the BCM and Radio to talk properly. The Ford dealership can do this and I'm fairly sure (not tried myself) you can do it with the extended license version of FORScan.

If you can get your hands on the ford tools such as ptdiag etc you could do this yourself, though not worth purchasing a cable just to do it once.
