PCM Hammer P01 and P59 flash tool v015

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

The MDI2 I have use of is one of two in the shop, and they're used with SPS daily to reprogram modules roughly 5 to 25 times a day without issue. I'll check on firmware/manager software updates tomorrow.

Awesome.

That would likely all be CANbus, whereas VPW is a bit different, not used in any modern vehicles.

Does PCM hammer have the ability to change the OS on 0411's ?
if not how would you load a 5.7.bin on a 12202088 OS pcm?

OS change is not supported with the current version of the app, but it will be supported eventually.

It's easy to recover a PCM after a bad calibration flash. It is not so easy to recover after a bad OS flash, so that's going to wait until the code is a bit more mature and stable.
Please don't PM me with technical questions - start a thread instead, and send me a link to it. That way I can answer in public, and help other people who have the same question. Thanks!

Hi all,

Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't the '2088 OS already HAVE the ability to run the 5.7L VORTEC in the PCM?
I have one '0411 from a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4.3L with the SAME OS.
I have another one from a 2001 Blazer 4x4 with the newer '8322 OS that replaced the '2088.

The OS switch from 088 to 156 was writing as you posted that.
Flash said successful

Read to confirm and...

VIN query failed: Timeout
Will save to C:\Users\start\Desktop\Bin's\brick.bin
[02:39:04:227] Querying operating system of current PCM.
[02:39:07:344] Operating system query failed, will retry: Error
[02:39:10:575] Operating system query failed: Error
[02:39:10:580] Will assume this is a 512kb PCM in recovery mode.
[02:39:11:081] Unlock was not successful.

I think its bricked.
While im sure a 0411 will run a 5.7, the cylinder volume would change so would fuel etc.

Hi all,

Windsma, are you referring to an LS1/LS6 5.7, or a truck-style Vortec 5.7?
I know they BOTH can be used with the 0411 as Truck's and Tahoe's came with the Vortec 5.7 BEFORE they came with the 5.3's.
Difference is the 5.7 used a Dizzy whereas the 5.3 is CnP.
I am sure you could open the BIN files for both the Vortec 4.3l V6 and the Vortec 5.7l V8 and compare them,
then make whatever changes are needed to a V6 PCM to run the V8 IF that is what you have.
I don't know WHAT your PCM came from so I am guessing here!

Hi all.

OK, from what I know, you would need to change the Ignition from the 24x CnP system to the 4x Dizzy system.
I am sure others could give more info than what I can. I Believe that this would entail a calibration-flash to make work, NOT an OS-flash.
But what do I know, lol. I too am still learning!
