Problems trying to read a 1997 Corvette PCM

Hi, sorry for asking what is probable a stupid question but,

Should PCM Hammer be able to read an LS1A pcm from a 97 Corvette???

I tried this out last week with PCM Hammer just for fun but was not able to read it. The 97/98 ecus are much different so I didn't really expect it to work. Oddly enough GM used these ECU's in 1999-2000 C6500 trucks with the 7.4 before switching to the 0411 in 2001 with the 8.1. We just did a 0411 swap on that truck are now working out some of the issues but it worked fairly well right out of the box.
