Problems connecting to PCM Hammer

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

Problems connecting to PCM Hammer

Post by tonyorlo »

I am having some issues getting version 012 to connect to my OBDX Pro VT. I first installed 009, and it seemed to be working, but it would not save te current file from the PCM. I then installed 012, but it is not giving me any options on the serial port selection. A few members pointed out that I did not have the correct drivers installed for the OBDX, so after installing them there was no change to PCM Hammer 012. Do I need to uninstall/reinstall it?

Thank you for any help!

EDIT: I had 009 on mock devices so that information in pointless.

EDIT #2: got it working. Stupid errors on my end.

The issue is NOT PcmHammer ... PcmHammer just uses tools (devices) already installed.

I do not know for 100% certainty that the OBDX Pro VT uses a Serial port.
However, I suspect it does, therefor, If there is no Serial Port (COMx) in the Serial Port drop down list in PcmHammer's Select Device dialog then the tool (OBDX Pro VT in this case) did not properly install.

As with most USB failed installs the best course of action is to unplug the USB device, Uninstall the drivers, Reinstall the drivers, then plug the USB device in ...

OK, I have a question for both of you: Where are these OBDX Pro VT drivers you talk about? On the net somewhere to be downloaded? Already native in Windows?

On my Windows 10 Pro machine (updated 1909 version), the OBDX Pro VT just worked. I didn't need to do anything to get this to work.

And I will say again it works GREAT!!! Thank you Pete and Tazzi!!!

Com4! It reports as something called "Maple." My Ubuntu Linux desktop even loads the correct driver.

I did notice that the date on the driver in Windows 10 reports that it was build in 2006? Something that's been around since XP I guess...

Then it probably uses a USB->UART (Serial) device driver. A very common driver.

And yes, I suspect it should just work in Win10, probably 7 as well.
Though I do not know this for sure ...

You would know way more about that then I would.

The name of the driver does suggest some kind of usb to serial device.

On my Windows 10 machine, it's found here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\usbser.sys

Driver Date: 6/21/2006

Driver Version: 10.0.18362.1

Yup, that be it ... Standard Windows usb->serial driver.

That would make my words about uninstalling and reinstalling the usb drivers WRONG ...

Now I know!

Thank you very much.

Hi all,

Perhaps Tazzi or Pete could let us know exactly what device it uses for the interface?
FTDI or CP210x series?

Thanks,

Mike

Its actually neither

It uses native USB connection, the usb VID/ID will be ST which may report as maple on linux machines. WIndows machines will need to use the driver installer which bascially just tells windows to associate that VID with the windows usb ser driver.
