Problems connecting to PCM Hammer

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

I figured I’d give it a try. I followed the included instructions in the zip file. Got it up on Tuner Pro, opened the bin file and shockingly it worked! Well I assume it worked, this is my first time ever looking into a factory tune, but it all seems to be there. I can see all the tables and values. I figure it’s a go or no go kinda thing right?

Again I really don’t know computers. Just after searching on here and some other sites I’ve slowly gained some understanding. I am really looking forward to learning how this works.

Doesnt look like the OSID you mentioned before appears on that page you linked.

So I honestly wouldn't try editing and writing without someone 100% saying its ok to do.

Worst case scenarios:
1) Brick the ECU
2) Damage engine

I never sugar coat things. :thumbup:

I apologize, those screen shots where from when I was messing with version 009, using the mock devices. I really came into it blind, but quickly realized I was messing with a “dummy vin”. I am not sure what year the pcm I am using is, but I did crack it open and it is a 0411.
Tazzi, this was my reply to David’s concerns with what you have mentioned. Sorry for the confusion.

Umm, Those words do not agree with the screen shots posted above in this thread ...
The screen shots posted above are clearly of PcmHammer v011 and v012 and clearly show OsID 12592618, and as David stated, that OsID is a 1M Os used on a P59 Pcm.

A 0411 (More properly 12200411) is the Service Number for a P01 PCM, they are only 512k (.5M).
A 411 PCM may have one of several Oses (Operating Systems).

You must use the correct XDF for the Operating System ID (OsID) ... If not you will most likely corrupt the file.

I am sorry Gampy and Tazzi, you are both correct I confused myself. I checked the vin on Tuner Pro this morning and it is a 05. It seems everything in Tuner Pro is working, but alot of the tables values look odd. Clearly things are missing.

I purchased 3 trucks for donor drivetrains, a 99, 00, and 01. Hopefully they all have 512kb PCMs. If not I will just have to source some 512kb PCMs for them I guess?

Each OS version requires it's own XDF ...

There are many Oses of each size. (P01 512k and P59 1m)

There could (and should) be many XDF's, one for each Os GM released, unfortunately there are only a few, those few are mostly for the P01 (512k).

I know of only 6 XDF's for the P01 and P59. (in Spirit of Community, I do NOT count nor consider locked XDF's)
12202088.xdf - 512k
12208322.xdf - 512k
12209203.xdf - 512k
12212156.xdf - 512k
12587603.xdf - 1m
12593358.xdf - 512k

The number is the OsID they work with.

They are very time consuming and difficult to create, there is very little information on their creation.

I'm a bit iffy on the year boundaries however I believe those are all P01 years. 99 is all I would question.

Hi all;

Gampy, most likely they are P01s.
Though they COULD be Vortec "Black Box" PCMs (I do know the S10 series trucks used the black box)
The 2001 is definitely a P01 - I have TWO that came from S-series Blazers!
Of the 2, one has a 2088 OS while the other is a 8322.
The 2156 is probably the best (fullest featured) OS for these PCMs.

I had made a comment to that affect, then yanked it out after looking things up because it gets a little gooey ...

OsID:12216125 is actually proclaimed to be the richest Os, though I know of no XDF for it ... Thus 12212156 is because it has an XDF.

So the PCM I used first from the 05 does not have a XDF file that I have came across. Using the service number Atleast.

When I opened up the 01 PCM is shows a 12202088.

Use PcmHammer and select the 'Read Properties' button, it will report the OsID ... then you know!

05 is a P59 (1m) Pcm.

12202088 is a common Os for P01 (512k) Pcms.
