Gm 4.3 P59, possible?

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

Gm 4.3 P59, possible?

Post by Aedakin »

ok, I swapped a 2006 4.3 into my 94. I was (and still am) very new to this kind of engine swap, But I had high hopes and dreams when I bought that powertrain, wiring, PCM, accessories from a friend of mine.

I get it all in and put together but when i turn the key it fires right up! then dies after about a full second. I'm going over everything thinking i missed something. Well after I was sure I hadn't, it dawned on me. The samn PCM is looking for the rest of the network. after a bit of research, this that and the other i find myself here. i got myself an OBDLink LX and pulled my bin. but i can't find an XDF anywhere.

should I have put that OBDLink money towards something else? or is there an XDF out there for me somewhere? money is kinda tight and woulda gone a long way towards a flash or PCM

any help is appreciated

I miss driving my truck. been down to long.

lol hope you enjoyed the storytime

Yes, I'm using a P59 PCM on my 03 4.3L truck. However I haven't been able to read or write in vehicle, so make sure you get a bench setup.

You should probably upgrade to the 12587603 OSID as there is an XDF that has quite a few parameters defined.

I'm sure you know this already, but you need to disable VATS to keep it running.

The OS upgrade is probably a good path if you intend to change more things. If you just want it to run as simply as possible post up the bin and someone can probably turn VATS off in it for you.

V6 support is stalled. A couple of us bought PCMs but but its been more work than people have been prepared to put in so far, as the PCM has more limitations that need more time to solve than the later ones. Im in a country that never got that PCM but due to an ebay ordering oops I have two P04s on my bench... but at the moment they're only acting as a monitor stand. Its open source software, so one day the support will probably come when a motivated and skilled individual decides to put in the time, but at the moment its not being actively developed and there is no ETA. You can however flash it with lsdroid from an android device with the obdlink mx. ls-droid has no USB support and requires the bluetooth device.

I wasn't able to read, so I never actually tried to write to avoid any issues.

Its possible that was a bad module not silencing when it should, and everyone may not get the same results. But, of course it is also possible that they do.

Wise decision!

I would like to know more about this issue, I don't want to continue contaminating this thread ... PM me or start a thread if you're interested.

[edit]
Is there a command that tells all modules to announce themselves??

Hi all,

Just my 2c but the 4.3l V6 IS supported the same as any V8 that is supported! It is the 60* and Buick 3800 that are WIP!
The key being to find an .xdf for the OS in question. As stated before, an OS Swap to the 7603 is probably the way to go.

Good point. The P04 PCM is not currently supported, the P01 and P59 can run a V6 and are.
