2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 to 4x2 Conversion

Post by tt03 »

Good Afternoon, I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this and if not please direct me to a better area. I am wanting to convert my 4x4 pcm to a 4x2, I need to know what to enable/disable or change in tunerpro to do this conversion. Another question is could I just take the bin from a 2000 Silverado 1500 with 4x2 and flash/clone it onto my pcm? Or could i just write the cal file?

Everything starts with the operating system. You can connect to it with pcmhammer and hit get properties and look for the operating system ID (OSID). From there you need to find an XDF for that OSID, and what the XDF defines becomes available in tunerpro to modify.
Next you have the hardware type, you can change operating systems between compatible hardware types, if you need too to get a factory calibration to suit your modified car on there, or to swap to a later OSID that might have a better XDF.

In general always first do a full read, and save that bin file somewhere safe. Unless you go horribly wrong, you will be able to clone that file back on to your PCM to get back to your starting point.

If the operating systems are the same between the 4x2 and the 2x2 you can just flash in the calibration. If the operating systems are different you will need to do a full flash, and that might also mean you need to re-link or disable the security in the calibration. You might also need to re-set the VIN back to the original for the vehicle.
