So I searched Microsoft for vcredist_2015. It had 2 files. Vcredistx86 and vcredistx64. I had already seen those files on my PC in vcx folder and another program folder after searching couple days ago. So today I downloaded these files, and when I tried to install, windows stated I already have a version of this installed. So still no luck yet. Is there a way to log startup of hammer to see sequence of problem?

PCM Hammer always logs ... Look in the Debug tab.

There are no options to produce more output ...
Give me a bit and I'll look see if I can add more error tracing in the J2534 code.

You can save that Debug tab (and or the Results tab) to Text file by menu selection or automatically, see menu Options.
To manually save,
Select: File
Select: Save
Select: Debug log
That will bring up the File Save As dialog allowing you to save the log ...

Thanks gampy! I may try a different PC to see if it works, but this is my automotive PC I want it to work on. I think I misstated earlier when I said the nano would only work directly installed (no VM)on this PC because of the amd processor. I meant that since it did work installed directly on 64bit windows 10(I decided to try it even though the new version of software made no guarantees, and this was 3 years ago), i read it was because of the processor and how it functions similar to older 32 bit processors. I shared on another forum that it could work without VM on windows 10 64 bit and others stated it didn't, but they had Intel processors. Still doesn't explain this .dll problem though

In PCM hammer, file option is greyed out, as is every other option except settings in options tab. I guess until it finds a functional device options are understandably unavailable. It says loaded DLL on log even after the 126 error at startup, but says unable to connect to device, then unable to initialize. I'll try my elm. Is it capable of flashing? I assume much slower than nano if so. I guess no one has tried the vci? I'm going to get one and I'll report back.

Never noticed that ... You can also save the log by selecting the Debug tab, then Right Click over the Text of the log and Select all, then Copy and Paste to Notepad.

This is out of PCM Hammers ability to trace ... PCM Hammer can only report what the dll found in the registry, reports back to it.

I'm not a fan of the control freak Nano developers and their complicated convoluted driver arrangement for doing such a simple thing!
Obviously the dll found in the registry reports back Success when in fact it is unable to jump through one of it's own hoops ... That's brain dead software IMO!
Not to mention it's incredibly informative error response that only they know the meaning of ...

I've PM'd you a test build that gives result codes, you can try it if you want, but I highly doubt it'll help ... This is not a PCM Hammer issue, I wish it was, I could likely fix it if it was!

So I tried my elm327, which works with forscan as well, and ran into problems. Hammer sees the device. If I choose avt 852 or obdxpro it just fails and I can continue, but if I choose obdlink or allpro as device type, it tries to communicate with device, but doesn't and then program hangs. I have to use task manager to close it. Here are pics of log when it happens. I can't leave cable plugged in or program hangs trying to initialize device when it starts.

Not all ELM devices are the same ... Some will work, some will not!

You would select, "ObdLink or AllPro" and the Comm port ...

We need to see the Debug log ... Please post a Debug log in Text format, i.e. a Notepad file (not a screen shot image).
