Vcx nano error 126 using PCM hammer SOLVED!

Post by Cincinnatus »

[Mod Edit]
The VXDiag VCX Nano fails when PCMHammer and or PCMLogger is installed from the Microsoft App Store.
Please download the zip file from https://github.com/LegacyNsfw/PcmHacks/releases and unzip to a suitable location.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

So I have a vcx nano with windows 10. I have used it with gds2, tech2win, sps, and forscan without any problems. I installed PCM hammer and when I choose vcxdiag I get error 126 can't load vcx.dll. I'm not a programmer but competent getting hardware functional. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. I also have hptuners, elm327, and am considering the vci j2534 for Toyota if anyone has experience please share. Also wondering if the vci is compatible with PCM hammer if anyone has used it? Thanks, Cincinnatus

Toyota doesnt have vpw so its unlikely to have the protocol you need. Can you post up a debug log from the start to where the error pops up from pcmhammer?
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

That's odd, What VCX Nano ??

The GM/Opel VCX Nano is used by many without issue ...

It's USB model. Have owned for couple years. Not sure how to run debug log. Will Google it and try to submit one. The vci for Toyota claims to support multiple protocols including j1850 vpw which I believe is gm protocol. I programmed in the 80s in basic and learned Fortran and Cobol in college. I quit computers until windows 98 came out. I am interested in helping with the software and was going to dl visual studio. What language is hammer written in? Thanks everyone!

Ok, so it's a USB model ... What one ??
Post an image of it.
You attach an image the same way as the log below.

To save a debug log in PCM Hammer, select File, Save, Debug Log ...
It's going to open a File Save As Dialog and allow you to save the file ...

To Add an Attachment here, while in the Editor (not quick reply), look to the lower left, you will see "Upload Attachment" ... follow the buttons at that point.

Unfortunately it's a dishonest world, many tools say they support protocols they do not actually support!

Vcx serial number starts n52gm***** it's for gm. On PCM hammer without opening a file, just selecting vcxdiag as device causes the error. Then every time I open hammer it immediately says the error before hammer opens.

The error, IIRC it is a missing Microsoft vc-redist package, IIRC it's vc_redist-2015.

Gosh I sure do despise ET apps Phoning Home ... i.e. the Unhandled Exception because it's not connected to the internet.
Don't get me wrong, it still should not throw an Exception, it should handle it appropriately, I'll look into it, it's not causing your problem.

PCM Hammer remembers the device used and saves it in the %localappdata%\PcmHacking directory.
It is safe to delete it, it will recreate it the next time PCM Hammer is launched.

So hammer is looking in windows subfolders for vcx.dll and it wasn't placed there when I installed software or drivers for the nano? Since forscan works with the nano, isn't it just an issue of hammer finding the location of driver data for the nano? I searched for vcx.dll and it is in c:/windows but hammer isn't finding it. Curious why others with nanos aren't having the same problem.
