E38 Vin Change

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

But it's irrelevant in a car, in my experience anyway. VZ,VE, and Cruze/Captiva are all interchangeable - generation specific

I am in no way disagreeing that the T43 vin appears to be totally useless and not used for GM for anything. I don't even see any security in the T43 and E83 or E92 configurations. Haven't dug into the 5 byte E92's so I cannot say anything on those setups.. I just wanted to correct the part about the T43 having no vin..

I tested this tool on a spare 2008 E67 and it worked great.

Thanks! Very Useful Program!

If you know what algo it uses to unlock the ECU a program could be written for it.. I might know it if you know what ecu you have??
Can PCM hammer read your ecu?? if it can you could use that..

If you know you own seed and key for that particular ecu then I could write something up from scratch just for your use.. wouldn't work for anyone else simply because it won't have an algorithm in it, it'd just spit the key you tell me to use..

Edited to add that your going to specify the year range better than 04 and up.. Maybe even the engine..
04 had nothing but pin 2 vpw.. This E38 tool was written for canbus 6&14..
05 had pin 2 only unless you had an LS4 engine, then it had canbus to TCM and then to the ecm.. no idea for 05 which data line you'd use to change the vin.
06 was the same as 05
07 was the same as 05
08 LS2 engine had pin 2 VPW AND canbus thru TCM like 05 did, L26 had canbus right to ECM and pin 2 vpw still

I think pcmhammer could do it if it could unlock the pcm, it doesnt need to know how to reflash it to do the vin change. There is a chance it'd just work. Its probably worth a new thread. We would need to know PCM details, osid, maybe seed key to match up the key algorithm but we could probably figure that out other ways too.

I have a night to play out in my shed tonight, so I dusted off a P04 and plugged it in and tried the current development code of pcmhammer. I dont think there is anything specific in here that isnt in the current release version. But I found the P04 detecting, unlocking, and vin change is working as is already. If it doesnt work in the latest released version, let us know. I think we could make P04 vin change a supported thing, even if we dont have flash.
