They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

P59 offsetting crank trigger events

Post by RADustin »

Gents,

Been noticing strange things on a project we are working on a Gen6 BBC with P59 ecm. It has CNP ignition and is DBW.

Last night I put my o-scope on crank, cam, and #1 coil and recorded all 3 at same time. What I figure is the actual timing is about 17.5° retarded from the PCM. so if I lock timing to 50° with scan tool, I see about 30-33 at engine based on a known good TDC mark.

Obviously there is a mechanical fix to rebroach another keyway groove in the reluctor ring. But in the meantime, I am in search of a software offset that will help to fine tune some other swap projects as well. It also keeps us from pulling this motor back apart. I know microsquirt, holley, ect can easily do this in their software. I'm sure there is a variable in the gm software to do it, it's just a matter of knowing where it is.

Does anyone know the variable location that will offset the crank trigger signal to better match actual TDC? Any OS is fine, I can port it over but I am using ...618(2005) for P59.

Thanks

Our RTLS1 tuning software can change the reluctor position in real time with the engine running. We also can log it a 165 fps. Sorry about showing off.

Bin location in 12592618 is 810E hex 0B8E

Here is some better description and stock value.

:punk:

thanks a ton. I'm going to try this out tonight.

I actually found this parameter in the ...603 XDF and mapped it to ...618 already. It's great to have a bit more faith it will actually work though.

I do need to fix my definitions to be signed. Thanks!! I'll report back tomorrow on success or not.
