Errors trying to read a P59

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

Errors trying to read a P59

Post by Scragon »

Hi, New member here. There is a huge trove of information in the forum but I have been unable (maybe because of lack of knowledge on my part) to locate a reference to the type of error I am receiving from pcmhammer v21 when trying to read the P59 in my 6 liter S-10. I get several 'Unexpected response to STPX payload: FB ERROR' and eventually a failed to read error. Should I post the log file here or attach it?

Thanks

Post or attach, either will get some help. What interface are you using?

I am using an 'OBDLink SX' usb interface and have used it successfully to read and write to 5 other PCMs just not this one.

Welcome.

Sorry you're having issues.

It is best to use PcmHammer's File -> Save -> Debug Log menu option to save the Debug log, and then attach (look lower left in the editor) that log.

The error: FB ERROR
Is an OBDLink 'Feedback error' -> A Circuit Problem!

In car, or on the bench ??

I have seen this errors only when the voltage drops below some thresholds, and the obdlink device freaked out, sending incomplete messages ending with the error.

The attempts were made in-car, I will check the connections and wiring. The voltage did not drop below 12.7 during the attempt.
Thanks for the tips, I will let you know the results of the wiring inspection.

Check the PCM Blue connector pins,
Pin 19 -> +12v Ignition Switch
Pin 20 -> +12v Battery
Pin 58 -> DLC Pin 2
Pin 60 -> -12v Ground
