12212156 lean bank 2 (red) & lean bank 1 (yellow)

They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

12212156 lean bank 2 (red) & lean bank 1 (yellow)

Post by 30bird »

I am a noob first swap learning on the go so if I say something ignorant it is because I have never done this before.
I am running a 12212156.bin (from BoredTruckOwner) I customized with a licensed copy of TuneProRT flashed with LS Droid and a OBDXpro.
1. The truck runs rough at cold start with the 12212156 tune

2. I keep getting code on torque pro P0174 lean bank 2 (red) & P0171 lean bank 1 (yellow) not sure what is going on but I am thinking it is the 12212156 tune

When I run the original LM7 9373372 tune it lifter rattles at start but runs smooth
I get no lean codes (I do get O2 bank 1 sensor 2)
Since 12212156 is written for a stock 2002 LM7 and this is a stock 1999 LM7, Maybe there are differences in the fuel systems?

I think your issue is that the 1999 and 2002 LM7 had different size injectors. I'm attaching a bin that has 1999 injector data in a 2002 bin. Hopefully this can get you going in the right direction.

That was kind of my guess, First or all I thank you for your help. I want to know, are the injectors the only change in that bin? How did you change it? The fuel tables or something?
My son and I really want to learn how to tune this PCM. Not to be a "tunner" or for any monetary reason. Just a car nerds that like to know how things work. I have a buddy that wants to swap his camaro and I have another 1979 firebird that is a roller that I want to build.

User TunerPro to compare your “Latest Mod” bin with the one provided by Phoenix to see what he has changed.
I expect it will be the injector size and also the battery offset values for the injectors. There may also be a couple other things depending what is identified in the XDF.

Yoda69 Thanks for your help

Thank you I just watched a youtube by P locky on how to do that https://youtu.be/GHn4JW41eFk
there are changes in B3701 - Injector Pulse Width Voltage Adjustment for the first 4 rows of MAF the voltage is increased (does that mean it sprays more?)
Just like you said also some changed values in the fuel injectors
What is confusing to me is the
overall voltage is increased by a factor of 1
B4001 - Injector Flow Rate (Grams/sec) is reduced by 0.44 down the table isn't that less fuel?
What am I missing

The stock 1999 engine has 21 lb/hr injectors, the stock 2002 engine has 25 lb/hr injectors.

The engine you have is from a 1999, so you have 21 lb/hr injectors. Those will spray less fuel per amount of time than the 2002 injectors that the tune thinks you have. So telling the tune you have smaller injectors will richen it.

Since we know all the injector data for the ones you have installed I swapped it over to the 2002 tune.

I opened a 1999 tune in HP Tuners to get the data and copied it over.

Well crap codes came back now its P0174 lean bank 2 (yellow) & P0171 lean bank 1 (red) turned on check engine. But when I had torque re-scan the codes were not present but check engine was still on. I am wondering if they were thrown in open loop? or maybe I need to change or something else. I thought about some injector cleaner (44K) but I do not get these with the stock bin LM7 9373372. So I am convinced it is the tune.
long story
I have replaced the fuel filter, and pressure regulator and fixed all the vacuum leaks with new hoses a couple of months ago when the fuel pump gave up. I had 10PSI at the rail then, now, I have 55 to 62 PSI at the port I can't remember the exact number but I think I set it to 58. I have used seafoam in the tank. So I am convinced it is the tune.

Are you logging fuel trims and O2 mV? What are the values you are seeing?
