They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

godiag nano with pcmhammer

Post by 99zguy »

Hello, new here and new to the late model tuning world. Still learning this new software and all. Last time was doing anything was tpi 350s. Anyway. I am trying to read a P01 pcm with pchammer using a bench harness and a godiag nano device. Is there a known issue using this interface? It keeps getting hung up on doing a full read. states the buffer is empty. I have tried on 4x as well as 1x with no luck, Thought that I would see if there is know problem with this device, or if I may be missing something before I return this interface and get something else to try. I do have some logs with 12v pwr supply that was just over 12v. Tonight tried another pwr suppy that is adjustable and is showing 13.4v and getting same results. Any insite would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The fifth line in your log says: "Battery Voltage is: 12.065". Maybe someone else can help.

There is no response to this transmit:

Code: Select all

[09:33:53:011] Requesting permission to upload kernel.
[09:33:53:026] TX: 6C 10 F0 34 00 10 00 FF 80 00
It's the first 10 byte transmit, it seems it must fail on transmit packets larger than 9 bytes. If it was transmitting you'd get back an OK or a Fail. But in this case nothing comes back implying the transmit failed. J2534 devices mostly are fine up to 2k bytes, so at this point its not compatible. If you were technical and if you can test with GM SPS and if that works then you might be able to update pcmhammer somehow to make it work, but it will need that testing and development.

Is there a way to tell what revision that GD Nano is ... Does it say on it ??
Something like, 421 or 421-A or 421-B, maybe ??

From what I can find out it should work, of course we all know what should work and does work is often far apart ... :(

It should handle the request.

So, I'll throw my other two cents in ...
[09:33:32:465] PCM Hammer 020
I would recommend uninstalling your current windows store version and grabbing PCMHammer021.zip from GitHub and extracting it in a location of your choice ... However I don't think it'll help in this case, but it does have fixes and enhancements over v20.
[09:33:32:793] Battery Voltage is: 12.065
As David said voltage is low, however that is less important then CLEAN power!
If all else fails use a freshly fully charged battery for a test ...

Please also ensure your bench harness matches this schematic Bench Harness Schematic.
Ground matters ...

I would also ask you to try without first Selecting Properties ... Reboot everything, open PCM Hammer, Select Device (if needed), select Tools, Read Entire PCM.

FMI ask ...

I'd like to see PCM Hammer work with this VCI, $30US for J2534 is a deal if it works!

Thank you
-Enjoy

Kind of looks like the tool cannot perform 4x mode.. Have you tried reading with 4x unchecked?
Also is there any aftermarket devices plugged into the data line like a radio or remote start. Those devices don’t like 4x either and can screw up things..
Can you post the 1x log, did you do this after powercycling both the ecu and the go diag?

Edited: obviously ignore the comment about aftermarket devices on the data line, lol. I knew bench harness but still wrote that out for some reason, lol

Yup, but the 4x log looks like the tool or ecm stopped responding when 4x was requested.. I am curious when the 1x failed..
Maybe I'm wrong but that's where I see the 4x log failing.. no responses at all after 4x was requested/commanded..

You're not wrong, that is where the tool is commanded to go 4x ...
[09:33:52:964] J2534 setting VPW 4X
And just above that the PCM has already agreed to do so ...
[09:33:48:792] RX: 6C F0 10 E0 AA
[09:33:48:792] Parsing 6C F0 10 E0 AA
[09:33:48:792] Module 0x10 (engine controller) has agreed.
So, you're breaking the assumption that it failed at the same point 1x and 4x ... Good point, we do not know that, the OP was not clear on that, and yes I agree I would also like to know! :)
