Newbie advice after getting started guide

Post by vgv8 »

Hi all, very interesting site. Have just read the getting started guide from VL400, been to Moates.net and gotten myself a little confused.

I have a small block chrysler project running LS1 injectors, twin VP V6 throttle bodies, a Chrysler Lean burn dissy with magnetic reluctor type with no advance of any kind. I have a wiring loom from a VP commodore including the '808 computer. In the future I will upgrade to twin turbos, I have GT28's ready to go.

I had planned to run Megasquirt 2. Then found a Kalmaker setup off a VN V8 turbo for $700. Then I found this site :D

Do I just need to download TunerPro or similar with an EEProm burner and recalibrate the 808 computer I have? If this is the case it would be way cheaper than importing a Megasquirt or the Kalmaker wouldn't it? Anything else anyone would suggest?

Thanks for any advice

to use the reluctor dizzy, you will have to use a camira ign module, and set up the dizzy advance to 10 deg. then set the reference angle in the tune to 10 deg.
there is a pdf somewhere on this site with the wiring diagram for the camira module. then you will be right to go tune the fuel and spark tables for your motor. if you tune it with the $12P code running on yoour memcal, later on you can add a 2 bar map sensor and then extend the tune for boost. makes it pretty easy

Thanks Jayme. So all I need to do is get a Camira ignition module, download TunerPro or TunerPro RT and $p12, buy ALDU1 and CABL1 XtremeALDL and NewCABL1 Combo from Moates.net and I can then basically tune the car as I would with Kalmaker or Megasquirt? I also understand I may be able to at least fire the car up on something like a V8 Holden tune? Thanks for the advice

Yeah thats pretty much it  Download TP5 beta from here .. http://www.tunerpro.net/beta/tpbeta.htm . Grab the 12P package and have a look around the XDF and bin for what you can change.

I am not sure if the moates ALDL interface will suit the 808, might need to check that one out. It wont let you change the tune at all either, would need an ostrich for that. The alternative to the moates gear (and to get the most out of 12P) is the NVRAM setup here .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=167 . For comms on the 808 can use the RS232 (https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=165) or USB (https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=164).

Oh and I am also running a delco on a small block chrysler. The reluctor dizzy and camira module works great up until around 500ish HP, we now use an MSD CDI setup thats triggered by the camira module.
